You might want to try booking your rooms one night at a time. As teams get beat (ideally KU) some fans check out and go home. Last year we ended up at the Ambassador for Friday/Saturday nights for just over $100/night.
That's nothing. Asst. coach Phil Bennet is probably about 2-12 in Ames. Of course he was coaching for us then in that dark time known as "The Criner Years" (shudder).
Agree with Steve Lester. On the first possession he caught a pass and outran 2 Oklahoma DB's about 80 yards who had great angles on him. He had a great game. I've never seen a receiver who hustled and blocked so hard.
Forgive me if this has already been posted, but did anyone catch (or better yet photograph) Fred's fist pump in the NW corner of the floor early in the post game celebration? From the looks of it I was pretty sure he was trying emulate Johnny.
That one gets my vote. Leading free throw shooter in the nation missed 2 near the end (Darwin Alexander I believe). Thigpen was on fire. The players said the floor was moving. That's the only time my ears hurt, of course I'm old & deaf now.
That's what I thought while reading the posts. At the Big 8 tourney in 1988 I sat next to a KC Chamber of Commerce employee who was the liason to the Big 8 and had a large part in the tourney. When I complained about the "Big Boys" seeming to get all the calls he told me that it's no accident...
I remember watching it. It was a taped broadcast at midnight, I believe on ESPN. Fortunately I hadn't heard the score yet. I don't think I even had a VCR then. I do have the Iowa game and program from '87 when Lefester went wild. Good luck!
I realize you have a car, but one word of advice. Do not attempt to take a taxi in Ames. You can walk across town faster than they will come to pick you up. That is not an exaggeration.
