Large Area of Iowa in Extreme Drought.
Iowa has been in some state of drought continuously since July 2020. The last year has been the worst of it. Last night's rain will help. But we'll need about 10 more just like it to correct the problem.- MNCYWX

Des Moines had a Weathergami yesterday. High of 64 and low of 17. That combination of high/low has never happened in the record book that dates back to 1878. This is the second Weathergami on the year. -

Huge warmup next week... But watch out that 2nd/3rd week in Feb. Teleconnections are hinting that some cooler air potential out there in the Midwest. A negative AO points to a weaker polar jet which can often break down and pay us a visit. Not 100% slam dunk though. -

Hardware/home stores *should* have a roof rake you can purchase. Fairly inexpensive when I bought mine 12 years ago up in MN. Probably $40. Multiple connected poles with a scoop on the end. Or there's some that you can push up and let the snow slide down a tarp/piece of plastic. -

Yup. ^^^ Just a pocket of dry air in the vertical profile of the atmosphere(we knew it was there) but the band of snow is overall arriving a couple hours late. Everything is still on track. -
