Matt Campbell: Every running back who has started for me to end a season has played in the NFL.

*Running back commits to play for Matt Campbell*

CF Poster: eeehhhhhhh…….. can he play safety?

Cylights.. He is listed as an athlete on graphics and plays in a WEIRD high school offense. It's also a fair question as how many white RB's are there in P5 football?

(Why is it hard to ask the white RB question without sounding like a terrible person?)

I mean, it's a positive stereotype but there's pretty clear evidence statistically, black running backs are faster. Doesn't mean Christian McCaffrey is an alien but he's certainly an exception.

Mr. Hansen lists his speed as 4.45. Do not know how that was timed.

Tim Dwight was faster than Tavian Banks but Banks ended up playing RB.

Just watching his highlight video, speed is not an issue. I have little doubt he's faster than Montgomery. Not as fast as Breece, but not many are. Hansen is a little bit of a long strider with an upright running style. He has a decent jump cut, but he's not what I'd call elusive or shifty. Definitely a physical runner. I could see him at 6-1 215 in a few years. I don't know that he'll ever be our feature back, but he can be a nice change of pace...kind of a Sheldon Croney type hammer to put in late in games or on 3rd and short. I could see him gashing a tired defense. Once he gets past the LBs, he has the speed to burn people and will be hard for DBs to bring down. I do think that if there's a logjam in front of him, he could end up moving to Safety or LB, but he'll get every shot to stick at RB. Nice pickup and kind of a different skill set from what we already have in the room.

I had a few of those same thoughts but not nearly as many or as well developed. Thanks much.

A fast Woody, maybe?

Tim was smaller though. Not really gonna take an Iowa RB workload imo. Also, when was the last time somebody else as fast as Tim has come along?

Maybe a taller, faster, less stout Woody. I actually see a little bit of Mike Warren in him. Kind of a slasher...if the hole is there, he's going to hit it at full speed.
I really like this comp, much better than the Woody comp. No offense to Woody, the dude scored on one of, if not the biggest/most memorable plays in school history. I think Hansen has a higher ceiling as more than a short yardage specialist which is where Woody really made his mark. I read that a lot of the ?s about him come mostly from the offense he plays in in HS but he has shown some decent ball skills over the summer at camps. He's just not asked to run a route or catch the ball in HS play very often.

Will be interesting to see him develop, winning Gatorade POTY and the numbers he posted show a dominant athlete at the HS level. If Campbell brings in really anyone at RB, I have faith they at least have the potential to play that position and play it well. Not many coaches have a better track record at any position in recent memory than Campbell with RB's.
