Hey at least they pulled off an upset last week! I can’t imagine there’s been many, if any, 4 over 1 seed upsets since going to 32 teams

We were left out at 8-1 back in my uncle rico days
there used to be teams who would win the state title one year, go undefeated the following year, and still miss the playoffs.

the team i can think of off the top of my head that it happened to is Dexfield.

You had to be in a conference with schools that were a class higher to cash in on those bonus points.

Also, not be the third-best team in your quadrant of the state.

Speaking of school consolidation, Van Buren has the logos of the tiny schools that eventually ended up in the VBCSD. Towns that consolidated to form new schools, Harmony and Fox Valley. Just kind of interesting.
When Van Buren and Harmony merged the agreement was that they would have new school colors and a new mascot. After the merger, it never happened, they kept the Warriors and the orange and black color scheme.
Really pissed off a lot of the Harmony people that VB had gone back and their word and did not do what they said they were going to do.

Pella made it to the title game as a #4 -- beat 1, 2, 1, 1. Believe that's the high mark.

Harlan, IA/Lincoln, NE
I was told Harlan has 6 starters injured and three will play. All 6 played the first time Harlan played them. I have no way to confirm. That changes everything. I don't know how to validate this. But makes it less interesting of a game if true.
Yes, the injury bug hit pretty hard after that game. There has been a lot of mixing and matching at positions going on since the Creston game. Nevada didn't go so well, but two nice wins to round out the season.

Thank all of the coaches who thought 32 qualifiers was a better idea than 16 in the smaller classes.

also takes a regular season game away from the smaller classes. Why would you play a 9th game if you don't make the playoffs? So you could get hurt in a meaningless game and miss basketball/wrestling season? OK I guess.

I don't mind 32. I wish there was a winning record requirement though.

Otherwise allow the smaller classes to play 9 games. THAT is wrong.

Money was a big driver from what I understand.

Can they opt for this? I'd guess most would want to play.

An injury can happen at any time.

Non-qualifying schools can pair up and play week 9, if they want. There were around 20 games this year.

They need to go to the RPI thing for the smaller classes. You could still take 32 but youd probably still have 3-5 teams.

If you went down to 16 teams and had a 9th regular season game, some teams that are 5-4 would probably miss out.
