I have to admit, I was slightly surprised Iowa's "worst full decade" for ranking was the '70s. For some reason I thought Iowa was more productive during that period. But it was post-Miller period, and I didn't remember Olsen had a half-decade as coach before he gained much traction.

Coupled with how awful Iowa football was in that decade -- yeesh, that must've been bummer-time for Hawkeyes fans.

Is this serious? I'll take that bet.
If they make it again, and that's seriously a BIG IF, it would only be because the Big 10 is bad. I think you are in for a huge surprise next year. I would guess you are looking at a 9th or 10th place finish.

They were a hot ticket at the same time as Duran Duran, Hall and Oates, and Huey Newis and the Lews.

Who cares about all-time. It is obvious which program is better right now.

17 years is a pretty long time anyway. I'm 38, grew up a huge Iowa fan and I barely remember the early to mid 80s which is the last time Iowa clearly had the better basketball program. They were pretty comparable through the 90s and ISU has been drastically better since 00 or 10 whichever you chose.

I guess pre-1985 might really matter to people in their 60s and older, but that'd be about it. Even for those people, I know our older Cyclone fans on this board care more about this season and next season than random 60s, 70s and 80s seasons.

20 or 30 or 40 more years of success, and ISU may catch Iowa.

I keep forgetting - how many states were in the union that last time iowa was relevant in basketball? I think technicolor was just coming out? And cable had 14 channels? Peppermint stick was 2 bits and you still got change. Never had to lock your doors. And I remember when all those houses was just a field. School was uphill both ways though. That hasn't changed. Did Lincoln ever come over for a rousing game of peach basket when the Ilinni were in town?

Not exactly sure.
Funny how this is only off poll rankings. Tourney performance is totally irrelevant. Starts at 1949.
