OSU had to bring in a family member to recruit good players. They are the #3 priority in the state. Fan support is no where near ISU or WV but they have more $$ from oil to pay and recruit

We don't pay well. We're not a real recruiting hotbed, and our tradition is very up and down. That pretty much rules out the top half of the conference, so probably the 6-8 range, and likely towards 8.

I agree. We are too poor to be considered a 'top job'. Tradition is OK, really comparable to or better than all but KU,OSU, WVU and maybe Baylor now that they have a natty. I have to feel that being a northern school in a southern-centric conference probably hurts us a little too. A prospective coach choosing between coaching at ISU or say, Tech might choose Tech simply due to proximity to recruiting hot beds. Unrelated to anything you said, but I think fan base is very overrated in terms of how good or bad a job is. Similarly I don't think it's really a deciding factor for most recruits either.
