What about splitting all other sports into two 10 team conferences? Have an alliance of the two conferences to form a 12 team football conference and also combine resources for tv and marketing. You get a big geographical footprint for football and marketing but cut down on travel costs for the non-revenue sports.

Exactly. The Big East would say "buh bye" to the Providences, Seton Halls, and DePaul's of the world to bolster themselves in football. Plus, the schools they're bringing in would be upgrades on the basketball court, too.

This "refute" doesn't worry me in the least.

They will go 20 team bballl if 12 team fball gets them $150M Fox main channel contract. It is only about money and greed at this point.

You're right. It is one man's opinion.

Right, he basically was saying it won't happen because he thinks the basketball schools would then be ******. Well I will let them in on a secret. Football is the money maker. If basketball was, they would have a lot larger revenue than they actually do.

A merger being "just football" -- do you mean it leaves B12 scraps to go somewhere else for other sports?

No, i mean it could be just the 8BE+4b12 football schools involved according to that guy. All sports.

Professional and Matt go together about as well as oil and water.

The thing is, I've been pretty adamant that we should be nice to the guy, criticize his views if you disagree, but don't read more into it and assume he has an anti-Iowa State bias. But yet even with people slinging mud at him on here, he finds a way to go and outdo them with even less class.

I can't say I'm convinced.

All the realignment has been about football dollars and TV markets. Even though the Big East is a primarily basketball conference, why would it be any different? I would think the Big East would follow the money just like everyone else.

(I originally posted this in the other Big East thread. Gotta hit 1000 posts!)

I think the Big East basketball schools would be fine with it. Put all the old Big east schools in one 10 team divison...ISU and the other midwest teams in another.....you only have to play out of divison a few times a year in bball...not a big deal...sure Saint Johns and Villanova don't want to play ISU and KSU but I bet DePaul and Marquette would if it meant they also could play KU

Plus they will want KU in the league....i think it makes a ton of sense

"20 team tournament is impossible". Tell that to a lil thing called the NCAA tournament which includes 68 teams. Two locations then meet for final 4 or 2 in MSG. Not hard.

20 team tournament would have 8 teams play in first round, top 12 byes, then a 4 round tournament.

Or, you could just be brutally cold...the bottom two teams in each division get to stay home come tourney time. Probably more money in having all 20 play though...

He was right, that was a complete mess. It's the same damn structure they use now isn't it? Their whole conference doesn't play in the Big East tournament I don't think.

That is correct, I don't think all make it in. It wouldn't change their tournament one bit.
I think you could have 20, 5 rd tournament, 8 teams in first round with the first round played on local campuses.

I didn't realize that grown-ups used "I told you so". I haven't used that in 20 years.
