I looked up the PPG allowed during Big12 play only and compared to our scoring output. Keep in mind we're probably skewing some of these down.

Team - PPG Allowed - Points Scored

Baylor - 25.2 - 24
Kansas - 30.4 - 11
K-State - 17.5 - 9
Texas - 21.3 - 21
Oklahoma - 29.1 - 13
WVU - 32.8 - 31
OSU - 30 - 14

Stats found here: https://big12sports.com/stats.aspx?path=football&year=2022

Our 3 best offensive performances were definitely Baylor, Texas and maybe WVU (might've been a fluke 4th quarter). And we still were just below the avg points allowed.

I'm pretty sure it's going to tell the exact same story but PPP would be a better measure to adjust for possessions.

No matter what metric one looks at though....we are horrific offensively.

If you want to look at teams’ PPG other than ISU, add 1-3 PPG to their Big 12 total, depending on how close we were.

In terms of Offense in the Big 12 this year.

- We are ranked last in ypg in the league
- The team ahead of us, WVU, averages 42 YARDS MORE/game than us, that is so bad.
- our rushing yards for the season = HUNDREDS of YARDS BEHIND the next worst team, this is an unbelievably tough picture to look at

We are Iowa, in a better league, without the special teams.

ETA: per SP+, Iowa is 107 on offense, 1 on defense and 10 on special teams. ISU is 101 on offense, 7 on defense and 122 on special teams. But our conference is equivalent to the B1G East or SEC East. The B1G West is 6ppg worse.

I see 'luck' thrown out there but eventually it's because they're just more disruptive and get to the ball better in a mob.
I think their might be some luck on average across all of football but that doesn't always explain it. Some teams are just better at it.

Iowa scores on defense and flips the field on ST. ISUs kick coverage has been pretty solid this year, but otherwise ST are hot garbage.
why can't we find a good place kicker (I agree Mervis was a great 'transfer' pickup) AND even moreso a punter that booms the ball? At least a few 60 yarders once and awhile on the roll.

We had a great one but he decommitted at the last second, so here we are.

I give the coaches a bit of a pass on that this year. Our kicker this year was not supposed to be who we have.

A bad season after three straight years of taking average talent to near the very top or the top of the big 12 in offense and our fans response is to fire the coaches.

Man, I can’t wait to see the massive line of offensive coaching talent lining up nationwide for this job here in Ames Iowa
