Certainly did not sound like a coach even considering leaving. Sounded like she loves what she is building. She talked about she really thinks they are building something that will be a Final Four team, and be a regular competitor for that.

After giving accolades to how hard the team worked and came together this year, and impressive tributes to each senior, she was asked about what she had coming back. It was interesting to note that much of it focused on the girls named Tori(y). Hurtt we could all expect after her tournament performance, but special mention was made of Tory Knuth who redshirted this year, probably because we were loaded in the middle with Straube, Matlock, and Stadick. Could we see Matlock slide over to the right side with Knuth taking over her middle spot? I think Bigbee could be a player for the RS as well. Maybe she will be a redshirt candidate as Christy seems to be using that tool strategically to build things for the future

Now it's up to Jamie and the new Prez to not take CJL for granted. Women's VB is a sport that is growing in popularity in high schools and it is one that we have a strong upper hand on that college in I.C. Really think we need to come up with a volleyball facility somehow. No more Hilton flood nightmares for one thing. These ladies have earned a home of their own on campus.

Definitely have a lot of line-up options for next year: I could see it like this in this order

Right side- Bigbee, Malloy, or Matlock
Second Middle(cuz first is Jamie's)- Matlock, Tory Knuth, and maybe Hannah Johnson
Outsides- Hurtt, Hockaday, Willms, and Kuhrt
Defensive Specialist- Nolan, or Goetz
Setter(if we run a 6-2)- Landweahr, Malloy, or Gallagher
And our libero will be Hahn since she's awesome and a vocal leader

Many options, but a good problem to have

Matlock was moved to the middle because of shoulder issues. I don't see her moving back to an outside unless emergency situation with other injuries.

There is no way on god's green earth we are building a VB facility anytime in the next 5yrs. Maybe, MAYBE 10yrs down the road.

A dedicated Wrestling facility would come first, then VB and neither is happening soon.

With the new FB facility moving the team out of the Jake and the Olsen building being remodeled to house wrestling along with VB having Hilton is about as good as it will get for the time being.

The Armory would be a perfect venue for VB - but it would take millions to renovate/retrofit for VB. CJL has mentioned it before. But when would we get the money?
When CJL talks about going on the road to play, whether during the season or in the tournament, she refers to the Nebraska's, Texas', Minn's, etc. as having "great places to play." Those programs all have the smaller, more intimidating arenas. Usually the remodeled old b-ball arenas. Like the Armory. It would be tremendous. And, IMO, the only way to really lock CJL in.

There definitely are options. With Landwehr back, I just don't see us going to a 6-2 at least not next year. She really came into her own this year, and can be a force on blocks at the net. Don't teams tend to go to a 6-2 when the setter is undersized? If Gallagher is as good as expected, that could be the case there, or just the fact that we have two good setters in her and can maybe take advantage of Malloy's other abilities better in a 6-2.

The Armory is already filled with design students, the parking division, ROTC, and the ISU police. Finding a new place for all of them wouldn't be easy. Plus it's a pretty old building.

Not as old as State Gym, or Morrill Hall, and both of those have been totally redone. I assume the Armory is pretty structurally sound.
I don't know about relocating the current occupants. Maybe it cant be done. Just saying that to build a brand new VB/wrestling arena, to hold 5,000 fans, would seem to be out of the question.

I'd guess a single facility for WR/VB/GYM is much more likely than a dedicated facility for any single one.

If we do, it might be one of those blowup buildings.

Does the armory hold 10,000 people?

Another issue with the Armory is parking.

You have tons of parking - tons - across Pammel, north of Molecular Biology and Metals Development. Trust me, we would have a MUCH better situation than the VB venues at Neb, Tx, Wisc - and they pack them in...

VB probably does as good or better than wrestling right now for the AD. Wrestling is in sad shape.

I dont think either is happening soon, but i dont see why wrestling would have to come first. Volleyball is definitely the growth sport, both at ISU and nationally, and personally id rank it ahead of wrestling at this point, especially with what CJL has proven she can do here.

Well, if you converted the armory, you'd not only have the costs of doing that, but the costs of creating the new space for everything that's currently in the armory. Might as well just build something new somewhere.

Personally i dont mind hilton for vb. Is it something CJL has said she wants? A new arena, when hilton works just fine (especially with curtains and such) seems a bit wasteful, honestly.

The "we have wrestling tradition" crowd will argue it. Obviously, we do have that tradition, but there's no reason that tradition has to outrank a program competing for the highest levels right now. Performance wise, right now, volleyball should rank ahead. I enjoy volleyball a whole lot more. I'd love to see it grow and grow.
