It still makes me scratch my head the way that the NFL has devalued running backs.. Montgomery will likely have 3 times as many touches as Lazard but make less money
It's not a running back's production compared to a wide receiver that makes them less valuable. It's a running back's production compared to other running backs. You can plug in a rookie, late round draft pick, and get comparable enough production that it's not worth paying big money for elite performance.

Guessing that means Jamaal Williams is not going to be back because the Lions still have Swift and that would be 3 RB to share carries with

I'm a little surprised that they didn't bring him back. He had a monster year getting into the end zone, and I thought he was a fan favorite. A little bit of a different cat, from what I understand, but he definitely was productive for them.
