My three favorite Christmas songs are done uniquely in a way you may never heard.

I came home from a White Elephant party with the Duck Dynasty Christmas CD one year....what was suppose to be a joke turned into an absolute knock out staple in my house. Hairy Christmas is my hands down favorite Christmas Carol.

Worst: Wham's Last Christmas.

I'm going to hell for this (and many other things), but every time I hear this song I can only think "Mary did you know how babies are made?"

On a more serious note, my issue with that song is of course Mary knew. All you have to do is read the Christmas story in the gospels to know that Mary absolutely knew the magitude of Jesus' birth. An angel told her she was giving birth to the Son of God and the angel blessed her for trusting in God's promise.

(Stepping down from the pulpit now).

Anything by Nat King Cole is tremendous. And basically the entire Home Alone soundtrack, too. I hate the Christmas shoes song.

I learned something from a clip on a 1980s TV show, about the song Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas -- its connection to WWII.

It was released in November 1944, with the musical Meet Me in St. Louis, which concerned the 1904 World’s Fair. The lyrics in the movie were about the family’s planned move to New York (not WWII).

Judy Garland Lyrics

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were near to us
Will be dear to us once more

Someday soon we all will be together
If the fates allow
Until then, we’ll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Judy Garland refused to sing the song as written, as she considered the lyrics too depressing. So it was revised.

You can find more about how the song came about in the links below.

The audio clip in the second link starts with that song, then goes into others, but at 11:30 goes into much greater detail and finishes with it.

No middle ground. Love it or hate it.
