Anyone remember it as the Sandy's building back in the early 70s?.. had several hamburgers in there.

Also, where is Battles going??

Is that really a better location for Kum & Go? Isn't most of the traffic on Welch southbound from Lincoln Way?

My bet is it will sit empty for awhile. With the underground storage tanks, there is some environmental cleanup that will be necessary, making it a less than ideal site.

I would be shocked if Kum and Go did not take care of all that before they tried to sell the property...

They probably will (if they don't want to be fined), but it will follow the land title for awhile that it was a former gas station. Have seen many sit empty for years even after tanks are taken out. But Campustown is different, I hope they prove me wrong. Prime corner location.

I would think Kum and Go just wants to keep their Campustown presence while offering a a more modern convenience store, such as the one out on Dakota and Mortenson. This site is probably 3x bigger then what they are on right now.

Exactly what I think too. Would have loved to see a QT there though, I like that store more than K&G.

That makes sense. I didn't realize they were buying up the whole thing - I wasn't sure if it was one lot or two.

Used to be a QT but they bailed on smaller markets. K&G bought up all the QT locations in Ames. Sometime in the early-mid 90s I believe.

The current lot that Kum and Go is on 0.2 acre.
The Battles/Campustown Liquors site is 0.65 acres.
The Post Office site is 0.46 acres, and the T-Galaxy site is 0.20 acres.

As the Kum and Go site at S. Dakota and Lincoln Way is on 1.46 acres, my guess is Kum and Go is trying to buy the old post office and T-Galaxy sites still. If they had all 3, they would have about 1.3 acres.

I wonder if they would build something for the Campus liquors to rent a space too so they could still get a cut in the campus liquor sales.

Also, Im surprised this has not been brought up here or published in the Trib yet, but Olive Garden is coming to Ames, right next to Texas RH.
