As someone who has a lot of Illinois alums in our family and cheered for Illinois growing up, my perception is that most of the nicer Chicago folks went to Illinois and many of the douchy ones went to Iowa. Obviously a broad generalization, but it seems to track with my experience as an adult too.

If u are not in the top 10% of your class in high school, do not apply at Illinois. Iowa and Iowa State are hooked on the out of state tuition of Illinois students coming to the State of Iowa.

Exactly. Every Illinois fan that I know says their number one hated team is Iowa....every single one. The reason? Their fans are so arrogant and think they are superior to all of humanity. Sounds familiar.

The hockeyes are like the Raiders – either you're a fan or you hate them.

It's just strange that our fellow Iowans are the most hated fan base in the Big 10.

Yes strange considering Iowan's are generally considered very nice.
ISU, UNI, and Drake don't carry the douche stigma. Then you have Iowa... It is strange.

Ok, I hear you. Having been exposed to them most of my life, it is never a surprise that others see them for what they are.
