Anyone know if JP has mentioned expanding the number of seats at Hilton as a priority for the athletic department? I would never want to mess with the atmosphere at Hilton, but I would think if we expanded to 15K+ we would have no problem filling those seats.

Where would you put those seats?

Maybe they could look at an extra level over the court like Madison Square Garden?
Otherwise, I really don't see where those seats would be without a massive renovation.

They could potentially add some suites on the lower level circle opposite of the press box and Johnny's (although this would make the concourse unbearably packed without expanding it). Otherwise, yeah it would probably be a major overhaul.

Plexiglass ceiling and people stand on their heads. You need to be more creative.

Note that every school ahead of us also has a larger venue. Also there are other factors such as Creighton plays in our convention center and are able to sell beer at all home games. A lot of Omaha folks go just for sheer entertainment and to drink beer, not really having any basis to cheer for Creighton other than they are local. Whereas most schools only draw true fans I would say and without the chance to have beer. So these numbers all have to be viewed with an asterisk I would think.

Any improvements will reduce the capacity slightly...suites

Creighton is also pretty good and fun to watch.

There was a plan quite a few years ago that actually went to the schematic phase to turn around the vomitory stairways so they dumped directly into the outer concourse and continue the seating above the top row of the lower level essentially filling in the inner concourse with seats. I believe it also included some small suites in that same space so it would have definitely been a net gain - not loss - of seats. I was disappointed that they didn't pull the trigger on that at the time.

Think about Hilton with 1,000 more screaming fans in seats and still room for a half dozen suites. It would be crazy!

Yep, back in 2006 they proposed a $100 million renovation to Hilton, including attaching the practice facility to Hilton and adding suites inside Hilton. These changes were supposed to be done by 2010. haha
Here's the links to the renderings and article.

What they need to do is get rid of the space between the parquet and balcony and put in suites. Have the balcony access straight from the concourse by the concessions.
The parquet access will be similar to Wells Fargo Arena.
And then suites all the way around. No seating would be lost, just adding suites between the balcony and parquet. This would also prevent people from leaving their seats at the 4 min timeout and standing around the concourse. It would also add another few hundred seats.

Plexiglass court with basement seating below for the win!

I just got done reading the new world record thread. Hard pass on that view.
