I feel like this is something I should know but what needs repaired in a pond? Dam or shoreline? Silt?I have a pond that needs repairs. I figure this is the year to do it since it is so low

Lakes were MUCH lower in north central Iowa in 2012 than now. Then 2013, rain never stopped and they were over flowing.Yea except 2010 and 2011 were wet. 2010 was REALLY wet. 2012 was a 1 year drought for most of Iowa.
2024 is year 3 already

Shoreline, if overgrown with willows or other invasive weed trees needs to be cleaned up. Spillway needs to be maintained so that when pond overfills, water flows around the end without eroding it. Drain pipe can't leak around the outside or you'll lose your dike. Silt needs removed from the bottom of the pond.I feel like this is something I should know but what needs repaired in a pond? Dam or shoreline? Silt?

Ah, nice one, MitchWe used to be in a drought, we still are but we used to be too.
I still have nightmares of that year. Crazy wet April, 10 inch snowstorm in May. Finished planting in June. Then hot and dry. Wind storm Labor Day weekend. Tons of flat corn that meant painfully slow combining. Due to that we finished combining in December in sub zero cold snap. Multiple nights sleeping in field starting machinery every two hours that was parked near windbreaks.Yep terrible yields that year in some areas due to the May snowstorm + essentially no rain in July and August.
A UW limnologist told me that by 2050 they expect the lakes in Madison will not freeze over completely at all.Madison Chain was open in late February basically with a few large chunks of floating ice for a while.
Northern WI lakes are opening up. They're usually iced over until late April I think.

Thanks BidenIowa has been in some state of drought continuously since July 2020.
The overflow pipe is rusted and needs replacedI feel like this is something I should know but what needs repaired in a pond? Dam or shoreline? Silt?
Supposedly with climate change we're becoming more dry like the Western states.
My grandfather was a naturalist, conservationist, architect. He said the wars of the future will be for water. Only other big thing to worry about is Yosemite blowing up.I said it in another thread. Our state senator came to the door and said he's bullish on Chicagoland because we have water.
Maybe the sonofabitch was on to something
Exactly this, except it will be Yellowstone. My grandfather was a naturalist, conservationist, architect. He said the wars of the future will be for water. Only other big thing to worry about is Yosemite blowing up.
