Idea: New Rep System

It's probably crazy to implement, but rep should be looked at a lot like getting into the NCAA tournament. If someone with a lot of good rep, gives you rep, negative or positive, it would weigh a lot heavier than someone who was on the lower end of the rep scale.

Already works that way on the positive side.

I have no idea how many times ive been repped, but have about 98000 rep points.

The rep scale is stupid. It needs to be revised ASAP. It is pretty much useless the way it is now. Someone who has been here for 5 days and made a few good posts has as good a reputation as someone who has been here for 5 years and made hundreds of good posts.

How many stages of rep are there? And what do they all say?

Taking away the ability to comment would be a good solution to negative rep, or a simple up vote/down vote. I agree that the bars have kind of outlived their usefulness.

Make it like a digg/reddit up and down vote rep system. Or you can do the "Thanks" thing some forums do. It shows how many times you have thanked people and how many times you have been thanked and the number of posts.
