Congrats florida state. Just what your university needs, more athletic glory and yet another elite 8 loss for isu athletic department
I'm sure the 15 fans that follow FSU volleyball are sure celebrating right now. I bet 99% of their fanbase doesn't even know FSU was playing tonight. For that school everything is football.

Considering how poor we were in women's basketball and volleyball, damn proud to see where we are today.

Good season cyclone volleyball!

Could think of it this way, in 2008 we lost to Texas in the elite 8 in 4 and tonight we lost in 5, so next year we'll win and make it to the final 4.

My last two years of college I went to around eight home volleyball matches. I never saw ISU win a single set. Not match. SET. I am not exaggerating.

Look at these results from those seasons:

Volleyball - Schedule - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports
Volleyball - Schedule - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

For those too lazy to click, ISU went 1-10 at home in 1999 and again in 2000. Each season, ISU won exactly one set in those 10 home losses combined. That's nine 3-0 losses in 11 home matches each season.

Will miss the four seniors, but like what we have to build with next year. Especially if Hock can step back into her old spot and replace Carly. Hurtt and Wilms the other OHs. Landwehr back at setter, and Hahn at Libero. Matlock and Straube in the middle. I think Bigbee steps right into Peterson's spot on the right side. Will need a defensive specialist to replace Mahoney, though. Maybe Goetz or newbie Caitlin Nolan can step into that spot.

Tough loss, but another great season. What Christy has done is pretty amazing. We have a bright future if she stays in Iowa.

The background on the VB twitter account tells you how far we've come with CJL.

With CJL (2005-2010): 125-67 + this year's wins
Before CJL (2000-2004): 36-111

Probably one of the best opportunities ISU would have ever had to win a national championship in volleyball. Most of the heavy hitters got knocked off. The moment just got to big and we played really bad. Some of the worst passing I've seen from this team all year.
We have some incredible recruits coming in and Hockaday should be back full-force next year. I expect us to be at least this good again next year.

I have no doubt that we will be good...probably better than this year but so will everyone else. This year all the chips seemed to be falling into place but we played a really poor match when we needed it the most.

I agree that things were going our way this year - easiest bracket, Penn State, Nebby out early, Texas out tonight. I'm extremely bummed out right now, but I think we'll learn from it and come back stronger next year. Hopefully we're kicking ***** in 2014 and I can come watch from Ames!

No, the Eastern Europe fans are sleeping now, they'll celebrate in the morning.

Sadly, unless Pepperdine can upset USC tonight all the head coaches in the Final Four will be male. No female coach has ever won the national championship. The Florida coach, (who started her head coaching career at ISU) is the only female who has even coached in the championship game. Let's hope its Christy that breaks that barrier while at the school that produced the leader of the woman suffrage movement, Carrie Chapman Catt.

Proud of the team. Heckuva a run. Being just a few points from the Final Four hurts because they didn't get it, but it is still an awesome finish for Iowa State and will keep us on the national stage for recruiting.

Lol, I agree, but it's heartbreaking to lose like that. If we had been swept, or beaten by Purdue, it wouldn't be this hard to take. But gosh, we had a 3 or 4 point lead early, and you can almost taste it, and then to watch it slip through their fingers (literally) like that, it's just gut-wrenching.

If I was anywhere close to Ames I would have season tickets for VB. In fact, they are so cheap, I may go ahead and get them next year and just donate the ones I can't make the drive from KC for. My nephew works at the Plex and could probably find some kids that would use them. I do watch come high school VB down here. Had the pleasure of watching Tori Hurtt all four years she won state titles. Would love to see her add a national one before she graduates.
