To kick things off, I watched Alita: Battle Angel the other night and wow, I actually really enjoyed that movie. I've never checked out the original Manga, so I came in with no preconceived notions. This was one of those weird movies where I saw the first trailer and thought it looked terrible, but figured I'd grab it at the library down the road and at least give it a shot. I don't think I was the only one either who was turned off by the trailer based on its box office record. Regardless, I found the movie to be wildly entertaining with a great heartfelt performance by its lead Alita character. The world-building was really intriguing as well. This movie was also packed with some new special effects too where some hit well, while others did not. Alita herself, with her weird-shaped head and large eyes is pretty jarring at first, but as you settle into the movie, its kind of crazy about how it eventually all ended up feeling natural by the end. It helped how well they fleshed out her character too. Anyway, it wasn't a perfect movie, but I found it to be one of the most pleasantly surprising movies I've seen in a while. Its a shame we won't likely see any type of sequel due to its poor box office performance, because I walked away wanting more. I'd encourage anyone who enjoys some good fantasy science fiction to give it a shot.
