I heard Petco and Sports Authority once upon a time but I know they ran into some road blocks at City Hall I think, not sure if it's still that.

They basically have like maybe one big concrete wall built as of today, and a crane. I didn't see what the sign said they were building though.

Looks like they decided to go ahead without the tax abatement, must not have really needed it. Sports Authority might be nice to have (although I've never been to one so I don't know what they're like), as there really isn't anything like that in Ames now. personally I hate the big box Pet Stores and the Pet industry in general so not too excited about that, but more business is good for Ames.

I hope it is a Sports Authority, that is something that is needed in Ames.

Won't shop at a big box pet store, especially when we have such great local treasures like The Ark.

Great treasures? Even in the new location The Ark is a horrible pet store. I've never been in there without the tanks just full of dead fish. Meanwhile all the employees are sitting behind the front counter.

Don't get me wrong I hate box pet stores too, but calling The Ark a treasure is something else. I spend my money at Dyvig's Pet Shoppe in Ames. A place that actually takes care of everything they have for sale. Hell at least Petco will be clean.

My 2 cents.
