March 5: Some college basketball bets I placed today

First of all, make sure to take advantage of the 100 percent profit boost at DK.

I just hammered Bryant to win its conference tournament at (+100) via Ceasars. That's the best number you can find.

Also did the same with South Dakota State at (-175) via DraftKings. I am buddies with Hendo (the head coach) and watch a lot of their games. They are far and away the class of that conference. Would take a massive upset for them to go down.

Also riding Morehead State at (+7) vs. Murray and BYU (+2.5) vs. San Fran.

I'm sure I'll post more later. Haven't dug into the Valley yet. Those lines seem pretty sharp.

Friday OT #2 - Crossing Genres

I was in a musical rut lately - I have a wide variety of genres I enjoy, but I find myself listening to the same few types while I work or do things. Rolling Stone published an updated version of their "Top 500 Albums of All TIme" a few years ago - a friend had listened to the whole old list, so I decided to listen to the updated list. I started at 500, and am only to 476, but there are a wide variety of music genres. I find myself still liking the same basic ones primarily (indie, rap/hip hop, classic rock, jazz, early punk), and disliking the same (hard metal, country), but have found some exceptions.

What are your musical tastes? What genres do you like and dislike?

Friday OT #1 - Bucket List

I'm aware that this name isn't very creative, but the topic also really isn't. With war going on overseas, it sort of puts your own mortality in perspective (or it doesn't, whatever is fine and no commentary either way).

What items are on your bucket list? Is there a certain performer you want to see in concert? Learn to play the banjo? Build a certain item with your own two hands? Fly a helicopter?

I sat here and tried to think of what I feel like I need to do that is under my own control. I think traveling to England is as close to it as I have left - I'm about 88% UK heritage, and a teeny bit of an anglophile. There are items I'd love to do (have grandkids, watch my children succeed in their careers, etc.) that I can't have any control over, so I feel like maybe those don't count.

What are yours?

Big 12 Adjusted Defense Ratings...

Got to thinking about the Big 12 defense and how tough it is...but also noticing many (not just on here) saying the Big Ten defense isn't that great. I didn't actually think that was true until I compared KenPom AD for the Big 12 and Big Ten. Remember last year in the tourney when the Big Ten was touted as the best and then **** the bed and only Michigan made the Sweet Sixteen? I think we might just see the same thing happen this year.

Summary:
  • No Big Ten team has an AD of higher than 21
  • FIVE Big 12 teams are better than the Big Ten's best defense
  • FIVE Big 12 teams are in the top 16
  • NINE of the Big 12 teams are better than TEN of the Big 12 defenses
  • All six of the Big 12 teams that will make the NCAA Tourney are in the top 40
  • FOUR of the Big ten teams that will make the NCAA Tourney are worse than the last place Big Ten team. Those four are also 74th or WORSE in AD

Big 12/Big Ten Defenses Ranked
Texas Tech 2
Oklahoma State 9
Iowa State 10
Baylor 11

Texas 16
Indiana 21
TCU 23
Wisconsin 27
Illinois 33
Oklahoma 35
Rutgers 39
Kansas 40
Kansas State 53

Northwestern 57
Michigan State 58
Penn State 63
West Virginia 67
Iowa 74
Michigan 91
Purdue 99
Maryland 102
Ohio State 118
Minnesota 153
Nebraska 175

Oil Changes Ames

ISU daughter going on spring break to Florida. One of her friends had planned to drive her car, but that fell through, so now daughter is taking her car. It's a 2018 Hyundai Elantra. As the overbearing dad I want to get oil change/service before she goes, but Stew Hansen is booked out to April. Doesn't look like there's a Hyundai dealership in Ames, any other places you'd suggest? Not a fan of Jiffy Lube, they screwed up big time on me once, never been back. TIA.

Ben breaks down how to get to the NCAA Championships

I know that the forums tend to be filled with many genius wrestling minds but for those who have joined us here as casual and new fans, Ben broke down what to watch for in terms of how the guys can qualify for the NCAA Championships from a simple win inside the allocations and what happens if you don't!

We are also doing a joint weight-by-weight breakdown that will go out tomorrow AM :)

Stats in W's vs L's

I don't think many will find the overall stats of this that shocking...maybe some will. We are all aware that if Brockington and Hunter are the only ones scoring we lose. But I was curious what our ppg in Hilton was for Big 12 vs away. PPG neutral and non con away. What record was home and away when GGK (Gabe, Grill, Kunc) were scoring or not. Results below...

Summary is (again probably not too shocking just trying to show data) we need to be hitting at least 8 threes as a team and GGK needs to get a combined 25 or more for us to win. It's really about that simple. If those three are all off...we're toast which we knew.

Home was not great for GGK as you'll see with the stats.

And while it's a three game data point all from the non-con, away and neutral we play our best. Highest PPG, best 3 point % as a team, GGK with over 28 ppg.

Bolded stats are shocking to me...

PPG at Hilton vs Big 12 = 63 ppg
PPG away Big 12 games - 62 ppg
Neutral/Away non-con games = 75 ppg (only three games but noticeable)

Home game Big 12 losses stats:
  • 21 total team threes in 5 losses (that's unreal)
  • 21-104 from three for 20%
  • GGK stats = 21-94 FG shooting for 22%
  • GGK = 12 ppg total
Home game Big 12 wins stats:
  • 35 total team threes in 4 wins
  • 35-72 from three for 49%
  • GGK stats = 38-70 for 54%
  • GGK = 31 ppg total
Away Big 12 losses stats:
  • 28 total team threes in 5 losses
  • 28-101 from three for 28%
  • GGK stats = 28-81 FG shooting for 34%
  • GGK = 14 ppg total
Away Big 12 wins stats:
  • 27 total team threes in 3 wins
  • 27-67 from three for 40%
  • GGK stats = 21-53 FG shooting for 40%
  • GGK = 21 ppg total
Netural/Away wins stats:
  • 24 total team threes in 3 wins
  • 24-50 from three for 48%
  • GGK stats = 27-46 FG shooting for 59%
  • GGK = 28 ppg total

7 seed in KC here we come...

We lost this.

We'll lose Saturday (big)

And if KSU beats OU at home (which they will) we are the 7 seed in KC.

We deserve any big drop in the seeds and metrics we get. This was disgustingly awful and embarrassing.

Gonna be 20-12 headed to the NCAAs. I kind of hope they drop us to a 10 but we for sure are gonna be a 9 seed. I'd bet on it. And I cannot imagine playing a 1 seed and what they'll do to us.

CFTV from today's availability

Here's video from today's media availability!

SO I have somehow used up all my phone space so there's a weird drop in the middle of my video of Dresser so I am so sorry for that but you didn't miss too much!
