One would argue that we did not need his 7 minutes of contribution which lead to zero points, 2 fouls, and many poor shots.

Of course he new this stat line before he put him in.....

One could also argue - and I think a bit more accurately, that it had less to do with performance and more to do with spelling other guys on the court like DG and SC.

Colvin played ahead of SC and DB all season to the point where he was benched. Performance concerns suggest he would've started last night in Lucca's place if that was all Mac had in mind.

I would've been fine if he kept him benched. As it is, I'm fine that he's brought him back early given what's happened with the roster. Can't believe people are making a mountain of what's not even an ant hill.

No, he didn't make a mistake with the public...This wasn't about you, me, or the public. This was about Colvin and the team. Mac needed to know if Colvin was serious about being part of the team. You're making it into a bigger deal than it is.

Question Mac's integrity, that's fine....but I know better.

I wouldnt have had a problem if Mac had said he was suspended indefinitely, and then said the things he has said in recent days regarding Colvin and thinking he understands, how his attitude had turned around, and then played him vs Texas Tech. None at all. The coach knows more than I do about his team.

However, that's not what the coach said 13 days ago, that's not how he presented it, and that's not how the fanbase supported it.

Jon, what about Steve's comments?

I need to go back in and listen to the context in which he commented about the posts here....I honestly cannot recall. I think it was me referencing some opinions that posters were sharing on this...and I dont have any idea where his comments stemmed from....at face value, yeah, those don't look so hot, I will grant you that.

Motive is always a key...I can't know the motives of everyone involved, just as none of us can.

However, I wonder...I wonder if the motives were to let a guy back on that was going to help them win basketball games, and make it to the NCAA tournament. If that was the motive, and they took a vote based on that, and the coach allowed that 'vote' to speak for him, when it went against what he had said days earlier related to "I dont care if it costs me wins"....well, here we are.

Drama makes for great radio.

Read what kg has to say. I have no idea who he is, but he is obviously an insider (with probably a pro-Mac bias). He has explained how it all went down.

Also, I think Mac probably feels pretty sick about how his players keep getting screwed over. It's not Craig's fault that Lucca quit. It's not DG's fault. And I think that Mac maybe blames himself for that and doesn't want those to be punished for that.

This. We have a great arena we can sell to recruits, a great practice facility, some solid talent on the team, a great academic institution, etc.... The one thing we don't have is a LEADER. I am sorry to say but I can't help but think of Chizik at this point. A guy with all of the hype coming in who has had literally no success and when his integrity comes into question he folds. This is the crap that we don't need going on.

That is totally not fair. I am fine with people disagreeing with the decision that was made to play Colvin. That is their prerogative. But don't compare Mac to a guy who never wanted to be here and used the job as a stepping stone to get out of town first chance he got. Mac has said all along he wants this to be his final job, and has worked his butt off to try and build a program. Am I disappointed this year? Somewhat. Is he? You bet your *** he is. But he sure as hell isn't going to Chiz us for it.

For those of you who think playing Colvin was bad, I have yet to see a better suggestion. Play with 7 players? You can not play a game with 7 players and expect to compete in the big 12. If someone turns and ankle and you get in foul trouble, you basically have to forfeit the game. How fair is that to Brakins and Gilstrap who are playing their *** off for ISU? How fair is that to the whole team, and the fans? The situation totally changed when Staiger left people. It was no longer a situation of sacrificing a couple wins possibly, it was the possibility of sacrificing the chance to even compete. There is a huge difference there. I didn't like it but I can guarantee no one in the staff did either.

He said it twice, about 30 minutes apart from each other.

.

SOme hosts probably look forward to it. I don't, or at least not in this way when it has to do with people that I like. Not at all. These topics are not fun for me in the least bit

The statement after the "however" is exactly the sort of thing that we don't know to have any merit. It's just the kind of supposition to stir something up.

Answer this honestly. Had he said indefinitely would you not have criticized him for setting a "soft" time to it. I think you would have. If not you some would have said so. I probably would have to be honest. In hindsight that was the way to go but within a week we lost 2 players at his position.

Mac has said nothing but good things about Chris's attitude since he was suspended and before Lucca quit. It's not like he's been going on about how Chris is sulking etc.

And while we supported the suspension, a lot of people thought it was not a good move and would make Chris decide to transfer. A lot of people didn't support the decision.

I'm not going to lie...I really don't care if you have a problem...IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU...It's about those guys in the locker room that only have each other. What do you think is more important? Caring what Jon thinks(or anybody else) or trusting the other guy in the fox hole?

No. Because I still don't know exactly what all transpired with Colvin. And Mac does. And Mac had 100% capacity in the trust bank with me based on my own personal interactions and observing his consistency with such issues. It's why I feel differently about Ferentz than some on here, because of my interactions and observations related to consistency of discipline that I have observed.

If anything, I think Lickliter has been pretty heavy handed in his discipline.

So I don't think I would have had a problem with it. I'd like to think not, otherwise I'd be a hypocrite, and I strive not to be

Thanks Jon, the first time is about 1/2 way through the first hour, you giggled going into the break. The second time was when he was mentioning that 19 year old posters on this site are posting between porn downloads. Just to help you out a bit.

I personally can not stand when coaches suspend indefinitely because I think it always gives them a cop out when cases like what happened to ISU 2 nights ago come up.

I was actually pretty proud of McDermott for stepping up and not only kicking Pomlee off the team, but putting a term on Colvin's suspension. Was so glad he did not go the indefinite route.

Had he gone the indefinite route, yes, this would have been a lot easier to handle and this thread would not be nearing 200 posts. The fact that McDermott handled it the way he did, not only did I gain respect for him int he process, but I lost that respect and than some in the process.

You say "vote" like it was a simple majority. From what I have heard, this was a unanimous deal.

Good grief, Jon. Everyone has given up on Iowa State's chances for the NCAA. Most everyone had given up before Lucca left. I'm pretty sure that you all discussed that during your show where Steve has said that it was time for McDermott to go.

It's not a democracy.

What's the point of having a coach? May as well just have a ballot box in the locker room and one on the bench.

Should we press? Yes or No?
Who should start?

If we might need a timeout, the players on the bench could huddle like they did on Family Feud.

Survey says, "Coward".

I do take some relief in knowing that Mac was not rewarded from compromising his integrity.

So did it make you any happier to see ISU lose? Seems like you're saying that because if ISU would have won, then you would have been upset.

I dont disagree with you here. What I think or say really doesn't matter much at all, if any, to ISU hoops. Not a bit. What I say isn't going to change ISU fans minds, because I'm a Hawk fan.

I get paid to talk about Iowa related sports stories and provide commentary on them. When people bring aspects of that into conversations, I may choose to enter the discussion then. Which is the only reason why I posted in this thread in the first place..had just planned on observing it.
