Is this an issue if they would have won by 20 last night? Does anyone know what the suspension was really for? The thing is, Mac has changed who he is because of the players leaving the program, to call him "scared" is an understatement. I think every day he wakes up asking himself who is going to leave this program today, I think he needs to be gone as something is not working and since I am not a player I do not know what that is, but do not underestimate what the loss of these top players has done to his mind.

Am I the only one finding ironic humor in hawk fan casting judgement on an ISU coach and how he handles issues with players.

Gotta thank a few of you guys, been a crappy couple days and I really needed the comic relief.

Yes, but at the same time, if this same situation happened over in Iowa City, this board would be ripping the decision and talking about how cowardly and desperate the move was.

I dont disagree with you here. What I think or say really doesn't matter much at all, if any, to ISU hoops. Not a bit. What I say isn't going to change ISU fans minds, because I'm a Hawk fan.

I get paid to talk about Iowa related sports stories and provide commentary on them. When people bring aspects of that into conversations, I may choose to enter the discussion then. Which is the only reason why I posted in this thread in the first place..had just planned on observing it.

I know...being accurate helps creditability.

I wouldnt have had a problem if Mac had said he was suspended indefinitely, and then said the things he has said in recent days regarding Colvin and thinking he understands, how his attitude had turned around, and then played him vs Texas Tech. None at all. The coach knows more than I do about his team.

However, that's not what the coach said 13 days ago, that's not how he presented it, and that's not how the fanbase supported it.

Remember this line the great Lloyd Bridges uttered from "Airplane"?

"Looked like I picked the wrong time to quit smoking (or "give up drinking").

13 days ago he still had Lucca and Boozer. You are arguing semantics. Gmac should have handled his suspension announcement a little differently, no doubt about that.

One would argue that we did not need his 7 minutes of contribution which lead to zero points, 2 fouls, and many poor shots.

If you are going to argue this with numbers, you should at least include the one that means the most - the score. There is a reason that most NBA box scores contain the +/- column. How the team does when you are on the court is the most important stat. For the game last night, you can get the numbers manually by reviewing the summary on the TT site.

Reviewing the +/- play-by-play stats show that Colvin ended up with a net zero in terms of game score in the minutes that he played. He was minus 7 in the first half and plus 7 in the 2nd half. Certainly not great, but decent when you consider the situation that he was thrown into and the fact that the team lost by 7.

Without checking all of the other numbers, I'm pretty sure that he might have been the only player on the team who didn't end up with a negative contribution. I did check Buckley for comparison and he ended up with a minus 9.

I listened this morning...Jon and Deace blew this up into something bigger than it was. Plus they didn't have all the facts, but I found it entertaining.

So have a lot of people. To me this is nothing. He suspended him, he can end the suspension anytime he wants. I never took Mac's statement as a PROMISE to me.

And we are talking about a bad attitude problem for god's sake. Not the cess-pool of criminal, legal, and life problems that plague the Hawks. For goodness sake, Lick has said that the kid with the clearly almost deadly alcohol problem will probably be back this year.

That is totally not fair. I am fine with people disagreeing with the decision that was made to play Colvin. That is their prerogative. But don't compare Mac to a guy who never wanted to be here and used the job as a stepping stone to get out of town first chance he got. Mac has said all along he wants this to be his final job, and has worked his butt off to try and build a program. Am I disappointed this year? Somewhat. Is he? You bet your *** he is. But he sure as hell isn't going to Chiz us for it.

For those of you who think playing Colvin was bad, I have yet to see a better suggestion. Play with 7 players? You can not play a game with 7 players and expect to compete in the big 12. If someone turns and ankle and you get in foul trouble, you basically have to forfeit the game. How fair is that to Brakins and Gilstrap who are playing their *** off for ISU? How fair is that to the whole team, and the fans? The situation totally changed when Staiger left people. It was no longer a situation of sacrificing a couple wins possibly, it was the possibility of sacrificing the chance to even compete. There is a huge difference there. I didn't like it but I can guarantee no one in the staff did either.

I purely made the Chizik reference in the fact that he made a big splash with his quotes when Colvin was suspended. Then turned around a few weeks later and went back on them using a team vote as an attempt to not take heat for going back on his strong words. That burns me. While ISU hasn't been the most successful program in athletics due to our abundance of integrity and willingness to do things the right way, it is one of the things that makes me proud to be a Cyclone fan. I felt like that honor, that integrity, that sets us apart from other programs took a hit by how this was handled. That type of thing really lights a fire for me because we have shown that we are better then that.

And again, it was a bad attitude. It wasn't like the kid was arrested or drank himself almost to death.

Huge mistake for Mac's credibility that he didn't suspend Colvin indefinitely so he wouldn't have to go back on his word, and that is exactly what he's done no matter how people try to spin it. It looks very bad and now he's lost the integrity card to play if this is another bad season.

I bet this is the last time that McDermott sets a date publicly for a suspension to end! Always leave yourself a way out without making yourself look desperate.:wideeyed:

Perhaps with the fans...Definitely not with the players. Which one would you choose?

I don't recall Mac ever saying that" there would be no circumstances in which the suspension could be altered". Out given.

Let me ask this, and the way some of you are talking it really sounds like it .... but had Feb 1 rolled around and CC was still acting like a punk, is GMac honor bound to allow him back on simply because he set a date? Simply because he didn't say "indefinitely". After all, if we're nit-picking over the simple issue of a date... we probably have to work both sides of the date, don't we?

The date was for CC's benefit. Not Gmac's. And sure as hell not for you or I.

It's not a democracy.

What's the point of having a coach? May as well just have a ballot box in the locker room and one on the bench.

Should we press? Yes or No?
Who should start?

If we might need a timeout, the players on the bench could huddle like they did on Family Feud.

Survey says, "Coward".

Actually, RossHallHero says "coward".

You have absolutely no idea what you are blathering on about and make no sense at all.

That's where you are wrong. Through your comments you are implying Gmac caved, can't be trusted to keep his word. That hurts the program.

I have to agree with DaddyMac on this. Why all the "moral" outrage over this. Colvin broke team rules. If the team was okay with his return, then why should you or anyone else be outraged over it.

I think it shows Gmac has a lot of respect for his players to go to them and give them the opportunity to give input on lifting the suspension or keeping it in place. I have no doubts that if the players would have said keep it in place, Colvin would have remained suspended.

I need to go back in and listen to the context in which he commented about the posts here....I honestly cannot recall. I think it was me referencing some opinions that posters were sharing on this...and I dont have any idea where his comments stemmed from....at face value, yeah, those don't look so hot, I will grant you that.

While you are at it, please ask the Moral One Deace how he can defend his Michigan head football coach who was knowingly breaking the rules of practice time limits because "everyone else is doing it" and "it's a stupid rule anyway" but can trash a coach for lifting a suspension that HE put in place????
