Ænima by TOOL is my alltime favorite. The Fragile by NIN is right up there too as is Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
  1. Funeral for a Friend (one of the best openers live - very long - saw him twice. Once in Hilton early 80s at the end of a tour - not great - saw him at Red Rocks in Colorado to start the tour - AWESOME YouTube - Elton John - Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (Yellow Brick Road 1 of 21)
  2. Candle in the Wind
  3. Bennie and the Jets
  4. Saturday Nights All Right For Fighting
  5. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
And one that I like that nobody has heard - Grey Seal

Captain Fantasic is awesome too (not close to the best of all time though) - As a young guy I especially like the bare chested girl on the inside of the album.

From Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I've always been partial to "Roy Rogers" a great song about the desperation of the common man and the daily work grind. Also like "Harmony". Madman Across the Water is probably my second favorite EJ LP. I'm not partial to much after Capt Fantastic album

My pick is also Abbey Road.

I'm surprised no one has said Revolver which is the critics' choice for best Beatles LP. I also love the White Album, but probably listen to Hard Day's Night Soundtrack and Please Please Me the most or the loose ends compilations whose names escape me now.

Check out Van Morrison "Moondance" He's a freaking genius. His greatest hits CD (with the microphone on the cover) is probably one of my most listened to CDs of all time. Wide variety (jazz, blues, rock, gospel, etc) and all brilliant.

For something more off the wall check out an Aussie band called the Whitlams. Their best of is called "Truth Beauty and a Picture of You." Very good pure pop/rock music.

My two favorites are U2 "The Joshua Tree" and Pearl Jam "Ten." I was in my undergrad when grunge rock hit, and I remember buying "Ten" in the bookstore with my books.

Is about the actual best album, or just personal favorites?

If it's personal favorites then I'd have go by genre.

Rock -- I have a few: Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zepplin IV, Minstrel in the Gallery by Jethro Tull, Invisible Touch by Genesis, Brain Salad Surgery by ELP, and Leftoverture by Kansas are my top rock albums.

Classical -- Gustav Holst, The Planets, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jazz -- Best of Miles Davis, Ellington's 60th Anniversary Concert (Duke Ellington Orchestra), The Greatest Jazz Concert in the World (Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, T-Bone Walker and others).

Best album I own.

Several REM posts — I wouldn't put any of their albums in my all-time top 10, but everything from Murmur through Lifes Rich Pageant is one to three weak songs short of Really Good.

Re: Replacements albums — I have a hard time ranking Let it Be-Tim-Pleased to Meet Me-Don't Tell a Soul. I like each for different reasons.

Like I said in the favorite song thread my favorite album is Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche. It is a concept album that was highly regarded and way overlooked.

I guess I will be the one to throw it out there.

People don't know real hip hop if they are putting Kanye West as their favorite albums...

My favorite hip hop album... none other than NaS - "Illmatic" from 1994

My favorite album of all time... I'm torn between Pink Floyd "Meddle" and Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"
