That shot shows the Shot Clock, not the Game Clock, and the Game Clock is the one that officially counts. Anyone have a photo of the shot with the Game Clock being shown?
At that point, aren't the shot clock and game clock the same thing? It would be pointless the have a shot clock when there is a change in possession with 1.6 seconds left.

Not necessarily, and the officials are going by the Game Clock, not the Shot Clock at that time anyway. The with less than 30 seconds to play, the Shot Clock is irrelevant and is not used as a game time reference, or that's how I remember the rules regarding official game time.

I watched the video posted on CF on CW's post game thread, and the shot seemed legit to me and I watched it five, or six times. Truthfully, I think the space between the game expiration and the ball leaving JVB's hand is too close for the human eye to see. When that happens, the shooter gets the benefit of the doubt at least 80% of the time. Our MBB team got one tonight.

When there is less than 35 seconds left, they either turn the shot clock off, or put the gameclock on the shot clock, since it's the only time that matters anymore.
Wherever the clock was, with 1.6 seconds left in the game, all clocks visible to the players will be the actual game clock time, regardless of where the time is being shown.

This is probably a dumb question as I don't know the rules, but in the pictures VDB's feet were off the floor. I always thought that once the feet were off the court in the process of the shot that it would count regardless of if the ball left his hands or not?

Not that it matters.......

Pretty sure the only thing that matters is when the ball leaves the players hand. That being said... I absolutely do not care at all if there is evidence showing that the shot should not have counted. The refs made the call and that is that. GMAC and the ******** Creighton fans can suck it.

It is my understanding that McDermott was nothing but cordial with the ruling, accepted the ruling on the court without going on a Pelini-esque tirade, and enjoyed his return to Iowa. Say what you will against the crybaby Creighton fans, but their men's basketball coach was nothing but classy the entire time.

He didn't get it off. When he shot it and made it I didn't celebrate because I didn't think he got it off. It was a bad call but that happens (as on the previous possession) and sometimes you just have to deal with it. Never should have come down to that anyway.

Gotta admit, it's nice to have this kind of thing go our way for once.

well, the horn is as irrelevant as the light around the backboard. The only thing that counts is the clock saying 0.0. And even that is irrelevant as we won the game. Also, ever heard of light being faster than sound??

The light on the backboard is the deciding factor in determining the end of a period of play. The light was added for this exact situation. The opportunity to review a play and have visual evidence that shows both the pklayer and the baxckboard in the same frame. JVB`s shot should not have counted. We finally got some luck and the call went our way.

I've got the video from cyclones.com stopped at the right moment. Not sure how to post it, but the ball is still in his hands and the clock shows all zeros.

The clock does not matter, because even though it can read "0.00" there can be a fraction of a second left.

Like others have mentioned...the call that put Creighton to the line with 1.6 seconds left was a travesty, so we got what we deserved...a victory!

One thing is evident: I do not want Scotty on the line in tight games. Has he ever missed 3 in a row before yesterday?
