So this Earl dude says Omaha is expected to get 10-12" of snow in the next 120 hours, but KETV in Omaha says 3-5" by the end of day on Tuesday. That seems like a pretty significant difference. What gives?

There is a little confusion on here about exactly what that link is. Technically, Earl isn't 'calling' for anything.

Earl's page contains model output. Its not actually a "homemade" forecast. He's just using GIS to put model data on maps for that particular link. That is basically just what the GFS spits out, nothing more.

Great website though. Tons of stuff in one spot to put together a forecast.

I wonder if that location has the "Buy one, Get one" sign that used to appear at the SE14th location?

But that's just cold.

I do love the fact that this season our 'storms' are a 2 inch dusting of snow. Sure beats last year.

Thanks for the clarification. As far as I'm concerned, most of this weather talk could be written in Chinese and it would mean just about as much to me. Guess I should just stick to my local news station forecast.

It will be a normal Iowa storm. Everyone freaks out, stocks up, and we get 2" of snow.

Even level-headed weather geeks are freaking out about this one. They are talking 20-30 inches in Chicago. Much of eastern Iowa might get 12-16 inches. Stuff could change in the next 24 hours, but this is looking to be a huge one.

They arnt expecting much here in Des Moines.

False, here's what the NWS said in their afternoon area forecast discussion.

LARGEST IMPACTS WILL BE TUESDAY...AS
MOISTURE INCREASES ACROSS IOWA. EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES MEAN
THE DENDRITIC ZONE IS NEARLY COMPLETELY SATURATED...WITH GOOD SNOW
PRODUCTION. SNOW RATIOS PUSH 20:1 ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA TOWARDS
END OF DAY TUESDAY. ATTM...TOTALLY SNOWFALL AMOUNTS SHOULD BE NEAR
10 INCHES IN THE NORTHWEST...COULD SEE NEAR A FOOT OF SNOW IN
CENTRAL IOWA...WITH HIGHER AMOUNTS TO THE SOUTHEAST. 2 FEET IS NOT
OUT OF THE QUESTION SE

You see, he got confused about the "two feet" part. Everyone has two feet, and it doesn't say Des Moines, so in the Des Moines, no one is expecting much.

Megan on 13 just said 5 to 10 inches of snow so we will get 1 to 2 if the trend for this year holds true.

Yeah Channel 5 said around 4 inches or so through Tuesday, while channel 8 said 9-10 inches. Lot of discrepancy there.

Do you have a link that proves your local weather bunny's forecast was off, or are you just revising history in order to fall in line with the other sheep? See, the weather predictions in my area have been pretty much spot on, so I'm wondering what makes your area so hard to analyze. Thing is, I don't think they are making as many mistakes as you say they are. You were probably burned once, and now you have a bias grudge against the weather people.

Watching channel 13 for accurate weather information is like reading the national Enquirer for factual news.
