Here's the latest statement from the NWS. When the late afternoon updates are put out, I wouldn't be surprised to see the amounts bumped up. Ames northward is under a Winter Weather Advisory for slightly less snowfall amounts.

..LONG DURATION WINTER STORM EXPECTED FOR MUCH OF IOWA...

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING
THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

* TIMING...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MONDAY AFTERNOON AND MAY
BE PRECEDED BY PATCHY FREEZING DRIZZLE TONIGHT INTO MONDAY

DAYBREAK ON WEDNESDAY.

* STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO
8 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE NEAR THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR WITH 9

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...NORTH WINDS AT 20 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS

When exactly is this storm supposed to hit?

Light stuff early tomorrow morning thru Tuesday morning, tapers off to snow showers, main system pulls in Tuesday afternoon. Generally south of Highway 30 probably 2-4 inches with the initial snows, more as you head towards the IA/MN border.

Scale is at the bottom. Thoughts are that the scales don't go high enough for this storm since they max out at 20 inches.

I can read the scale, but when there is only half on one it is hard to know what colors mean what amount.

Seems like we typically get another round of updates at around 5pm and 11pm

It will be big, it will last long, it will be windy, and you will wish you had a two stage snow blower.

It will be a normal Iowa storm. Everyone freaks out, stocks up, and we get 2" of snow.

Looks like that track closer towards Iowa is winning out.

SE IA is going to be especially interesting to watch and looks to pick up the most snow out of this. The way it sits right now at least a foot. It wouldn't surprise me if St. Louis sees a couple feet of snow. As for central Iowa... watch out for the dryer air moving in from the north, it may try to shut off the snow early on you. It won't be nearly as impressive in Des Moines as it will in SE Iowa.

To make things worse, anywhere that does see snow will see a strong wind to boot. Blowing snow/drifting will be an issue to deal with.

The news is STL is not looking so good 15+ of snow...4 inches of snow is a lot of snow for down here.
