Not only this, but do they think they'll have an easier road to success in football? I just don't really see what they gain from the move.
They're going to get prison raped by about half of that league.

But the Big East has been a viable league with 8-teams since 2005 and they don't have a university in their conference that can match with Texas. I feel safer if ISU hitched their wagon to UT: Chris is right, UT can't go independent because they would have nowhere to put their other sports, and they can't go to another conference because they can't bring the LHN with them. A Big 12 conference with a worst case scenario of UT, ISU, Kansas, Kansas St and Baylor still has more brand recognition than the soon to be 9-team Big East. The goal out of all of this needs to be how many universities make up a viable conference while also maintaining AQ status. If any other universities leave, the Big 12 leftovers and Texas can extend invites to the candidates that they all want and can rebuild the conference.
Not only this, but do they think they'll have an easier road to success in football? I just don't really see what they gain from the move.
You're theory is dead on. That scenario would be great for Iowa State....In the short term.
The problem I have it with it is long term, I'm not sure how viable a 9-team league would be. Who knows?
People a lot smarter than me will figure that out.
Yes Aggie will make more money in football. With expansion the SEC will undoubtedly sign the largest football television contract in the nation.
Aggie is butthurt. They are tired of being viewed as Austin's little brother and they hope this will allow them to step out of that shadow/tagline.
Maybe after teams start to notice that Texas/OU have an easier path to the NC and one of these teams play in the NC game consistently, there might be some SEC teams that become jealous. With 9 teams the revenue sharing will only get better. We might only be 9, but I think overall we might have actually come out a head because we can be choosy who we let in as long as we don't go out and get a Rice or Houston.
I think people need to realize that we aren't going to be a big dog anymore and we have to face that fact. People bring up the mega-conferences as the wave of the future but I think being so big will be their ultimate demise. Money is nice, but winning is even more nice. I think the path to the championship becomes very difficult in a mega-conference and while it might be easier for Texas/OU to make the NC teams will start to take notice and realize the mess that has been created. The only thing that can keep this theory together is how and when the BCS changes its bowl tie-ins because they don't operate very quickly I think ISU will be just fine.
Nothing posted in 10 minutes? This must mean its not happening anymore...
They could ultimately force Texas and OU into a mega-conference for that reason. If they truly want to break away from the NCAA, then OU/UT's national championships would be pretty meaningless anyway. Those two schools would want in on a 16 team playoff or whatever alternative is set up.
A 9-team conference may be viable for a few years, but within the next decade, it will have to either expand or will implode.

Shouldn't we have a Giggles report or attack by now? You know, our old pal from KXNO?
You know he jus-cant-wait until ISU is in the MAC!

Him and CW are currently going at it on Twitter right now...

A 9-team Big 12 would be wonderful for ISU. Drop A&M. Add another non-con. More money. But how viable is that solution long-term? #Cyclones

@ChrisMWilliams You know the answer to that. TX is going to go Independent or go somewhere else. 8-team Big 12 doesn't have enough eyeballs

@sportstalkmatt Texas will not go independent Matt. They've said repeatedly that they don't want to. Texas wants the Big 12 to live.

@ChrisMWilliams Chip's latest article says that TX would talk to ND about joining another conference with them. Plus, the ESPN deal talks it

@sportstalkmatt Correct. But any lawyer at ESPN worth a crap has to put that language in a multi-million $ contract. The ND thing is a conf.

@ChrisMWilliams Remember that Chip is was wrong about a lot of stuff last time too. No A&M creates a domino effect. OU would be next IMO

@sportstalkmatt Tramel claims that OU would never go to SEC. "Culture" stuff. OU's road to NT is much easier in current situation.

My money is all in on CW in that battle of wits.
Perrault wants ISU to fail more than any of us want ISU to succeed.
