Because they think that Royce may be moving on after the Baylor game?

No because they like what we already have returning (likely) next year, and Norvel would be big asset to a team that already looks like it will do alot of damage in the XII. Plus, a large (tall), defensive post presence is something that we have lacked this season.

His size and athleticism would help immensely on this already talented team.

Rumor is that Norvel is impressed with Hoiberg's NBA connection and Iowa States turnaround

quote from Jon Rothstein...CBS writer

- "Former St. John’s signee Norvel Pelle will visit Iowa State this weekend for the Cyclones game against Baylor. Sources say the 6-foot-10 Pelle is intrigued by the idea of playing for a coach with NBA ties in Fred Hoiberg and has also noticed that Iowa State is a program on the upswing. The Cyclones already have 21 wins this season, including 11 in the Big 12 heading into tomorrow’s game at Missouri."

Let's hope there is a lot of truth to this rumor.

Reasons why Norvel should commit:

1. Fred is very connected to the NBA and knows what it takes to get there.
2. Fred plays an NBA style offense, which will help get his players ready for the next level
3. Fred has something very special brewing. He's picking up recruiting momentum and has clearly shown that he can coach and get his team to buy into his program.
4. Hilton
5. If Royce leaves, there will be a huge opportunity for Pelle to be a featured player
6. If Royce stays, Pelle will be the beneficiary of Royce and Lucious driving to the hope and setting him up with dunks.

Folks, keep in mind that this is an official visit not an unofficial one that Rashad Vaughn would be making or that other 2013-2014 players would be making. An unofficial visit is all up to those players, they have to pay for their trip here and work everything out themselves. Pelle is taking an official visit, which means Iowa State is working everything out for him to get here, official visits are much less likely to be cancelled than the unofficial visits that often do.

Can you only take visits during certain times in your high school career or something?

Kid's looking at one school not on the coast. Doubt we get him. Probably just wants to try the famous clone clones.

Yes.. Current rules state that a student-athlete is allowed to take 5 official visits beginning their first day of their senior season in high school. A student-athlete may take as many unofficial visits as they want.

I say current as in the very near-future, the exact date escapes me at this moment, they plan to move the starting date to January 1 of the student-athletes junior season.

Not to get too drunk on the Kool Aid, but this is exactly the kind of kid that I was hoping Freddie could bring in once he got established. Fred is just a winner, and I think having his connections, his drive, his background, his personality etc., I feel like we could be seeing the establishment of a real powerhouse here.

Given his name recognition and quick turnaround, I fully expect him to be a popular coach with the national media, and that can only help him do this.
