Tanner Lancona, a 2013 whom we heard about a few weeks ago. Not sure what triggered it (besides a jr year basketball season), but he went from a virtual "nobody" to a high-major interest in the past month. Tweets at and about ISU players, etc, so he must be somewhat interested in us.

Here is a YouTube vid of his play. Some of it is hilarious (foul shots that roll around the rim and go in, also uncontested dunks, but also seem him make some pretty aggressive, athletic plays. If you can make it past the first couple minutes, you'll also see him show off a nice jumper and 3 pt shot. I recently saw a coach compare him to Kevin Love. (hmmm).

edit: Also, he's a southpaw. This staff is really showing a penchant for left handed big men.

I'm sure a lot of you who follow this thread have already thought about this, but I think a silver lining from the Royce-saga is these young Twin Cities kids (Tyus Jones, Rashad Vaughn, Jarvis Johnson, Andre Wallace, etc.) that the staff is recruiting. They've taken notice of Royce- that's for sure, and with the high praise for Hoiberg ("an idol and a friend") and love of Ames I think he may help us get a foot in the door, or really seal the deal with these guys. And that's to say nothing of the persuasion he may have for Trent Lockett. I still think we would have an uphill battle for Jones, but I know that the TC prep scene is taking notice.

I can confirm that Iowa State staff will be in Tesora (CA) tomorrow to watch 2013 PF Tanner Lancona. Also, as obvious we are keeping a tab on any big name that plans to transfer this year; they of course have their own threads to keep track of what is released on them.

Both Fred Hoiberg & Matt Abdulmasseh were at the Minnesota HS State Tournament yesterday to catch players such as 2014 Reid Travis, Andre Wallace and many others. After catching the tournament they hopped over to California to watch 2013 PF Tanner Lancona last night.

2013 PG Monte Morris had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists yesterday for Flint Beecher (MI) in their 65-45 semifinal win. They will play on Saturday for the state championship...

2013 F Steven Haney (St. Thomas Aquinas, FL) received a scholarship offer from Oklahoma State yesterday after they watched him on Wednesday. Iowa State has also offered Haney & was reported as being one of the teams that was recruiting him the hardest.

The scholarship situation for next year is becoming a bit more clear after Royce White declared for the draft, now multiple (reputable) reports indicate that Freshman Travon Sledge is expected to transfer to a school to receive more player time. The Scholarship Breakdown has been updated with all of the latest information...

We're certainly doing what we can in Minnesota. I hope Tyus Jones leaves the state. If he goes to the 'U' there will be a few talented Minnesotans who will probably want to play with him. I know we have no chance with Tyus.

Down in Hutchinson, both Indian Hills (McKay) and Monroe CC (Sanchez) are still playing. Both are in the consolations, however - IH has a chance for 7th/ 8th, and Monroe for 5th/ 6th.

The way they run this tournament is really strange/ stupid. 16 teams, no seeding, and if you lose 1st rd, you play for 7th/ 8th. If you win, then lose - 5th/6th. win win lose - 3rd/ 4th. And so on.

Here is the goofy bracket: http://njcaabbtrny.org/pdfs/bracket_2012.pdf

It is very strange... The say they plan to move it to a 24 team tourney next year and actually do seeding.

Wow. The top 2 teams could play each other in the first game and screw everything up.

Probably missed this, but while in CA, will the coaches be talking to Pelle?

Having too many good players is a very good problem to have... a lot better than the problems of the past seven years
