If there are open scholarships in the spring and you use them on one and done guys, there really is no harm done. The chances of snagging another Gibson this late in the process are pretty slim.

Exactly! I think people have too high of expectations for the incoming freshman. If we get a one and done guy it gives the freshman some time to develop or possibly redshirt.

I'm just glad Fred and his staff are making the recruiting decisions. They seem to have a good idea of what they are doing in building a program. Only squawk fans and idiots think the recruiting strategy of finding impact players for one or two years is not a good way to build a program.

This!
Fred took us to the NCAA tourney and won a game there in his 2nd year! I believe that has earned him the benefit of the doubt from us fans. For the time being anyway.

I'm a bit concerned about unbalanced classes. If we bring in a one-year guy and another freshman for next season, we'll have 6 new guys for 2013-2014, plus 5 sophomores. And that's if nobody transfers after next season. Mel and Percy would be the only guys with more than a year in the program. Of course all this depends on what is available, but I'd like to see us try to get a JuCo guy with two years of eligibility to replace Royce. If we can find a good freshman to add, then bring him on. If not, take a transfer that still has a year or two of eligibility(even if he has to sit out next year).

That wouldn't completely balance the classes, but we would have them evened out a bit. And we wouldn't be sacrificing much for next year. There are only so many minutes to go around, after all.

But if we're going with the "grab the most talent for right now and let things fall where they may" strategy (which I'm ok with as well), bring in Oriakhi and Lockett (or some similar combination).

At the end of the day, I'll trust Fred and support whatever he decides to do with them.

Personally, I would take a Final Four one year and not making the tourney the next. The selection committee doesn't come into your arena and take down the banner. I can't speak for everyone, though.

Unless Calipari was your coach.

Not having bigs is not good. Mizzou lost in the round of 64 because they couldn't control the interior against a 15 seed.

BTW, I hate calling the round of 64 the second round. Stupid play-in games...

I agree, I will not call it the 2nd round

Definitely. Hell, I'm ok with 2013/2014 being a "rebuilding" year where we miss the tournament if we have another season like this one in 2012/2013. I don't even need a final four:cool:

Too bad Clyburn can't shoot a lick from outside.

And, let's not forget that both McGee and Babb earned "Big XII Rookie of the Week" awards this season, primarily for their outside shooting. Both also hit big 3-pointers in crunch time vs. Top-10 opponents.

I think both will return to form next year and, hopefully, improve their shooting from this year with added practice.

I'm interested in Evan Smotrycz from Michigan. 6-9 235 who can shoot from out. give him one year in the weight room with Booker, and he'll be set.

With all the open scholarships available for 13-14, I'm pretty sure they will employ the same strategy and find a couple transfers/immediate play guys to help balance classes and keep the talent stocked.

I'm sure we would. I was just getting nervous seeing only 6 scholarship guys on roster right now for 2013. I'm too impatient to let it all play out before getting worried:laugh:
