I really hope this doesn't turn into an email Jamie Pollard and President Leath thread. People need to stop worrying about things they have no control over.

People certainly have the right to voice their concerns, and if they fell this is unacceptable behavior by an ISU student, then let Mr Leath know.

How about let them do their job.

Can't believe this thread is still going; the morons are out in full effect on both sides.

First of all, President Leath has more important things to do. And I'm sure you also lead the pitchfork crowd against Jason Berryman too?

Why worry about something you have zero control over?

Do you have children? If so, is their safety important to you? Or is it more important that the football team be competetive than a safe environment be provided for students on campus? I can certainly see your embarrasment, but it would not be for the reasons you state. For some reason, there is a faction of society that believes being an athlete precludes one from being a responsible citizen who is held accountable as everyone else is. Mr Gary is going to be a convicted felon who brandished a gun on central campus in commission of a robbery. Hopefully he will be history soon, when concerned parents and citizens flood Mr Leath`s e-mail with their concerns.

Yes. I have children. Their safety is important to me. Yes. Albert Gary was wrong in what he did. It was incredibly stupid. Did Albert Gary harm anyone? Did Albert Gary steal anything?

There are all sorts of opinions whether Albert Gary should be allowed to play. Context is everything and IMO it is the Coach's decision. He knows the circumstances and Albert Gary better than any of us.

In CPR I trust. And if Albert Gary is in uniform for Iowa State I will cheer for him. I think the context of no jail time and probation need to be considered even though the offense is technically a felony. If it is that serious then why not throw him in jail?

Here is the key, those who have concerns may have an impact, either way.
It is called voicing opinions and if many have concerns, especially donors, I guarantee they may get listened to.

Expressing a concern on his playing is not being "pitchfork" There is no need to try and shout down either side of this discussion.

I am fine to leaving it to following university policy, but that does not mean I do not have concerns. It is possible that policy means he may not play regardless.

As I have stated, personally, if the quotes are accurate, it is the attitude and intimidation that concern me the most. My opinion would be adjusted based on all relevant facts and and any humility and remorse shown.

However. to be clear, imho, to say it is just a prank gone wrong, or suit them up unless rape or murder, I can only wonder wow.

Fortunately, I can do as I see fit and voice my concerns as I choose. I encourage other concerned alumnus and donors to do the same. I feel confident that it will have an impact.

Good for you. As an alumnus and donor myself, I am fully confident that the AD and CPR will handle this accordingly, considering that they know more about this situation than any of us. I just feel that a few of vocal m

What could be more important to President Leath than doing all he can to ensure the best possible safety, security and peace-of-mind of his university's students as they walk through central campus??

Albert Gary may be serving punishment right now for all we know.

Everyone says that they don't want a replay of the Berryman situation. IIRC, the Berryman situation worked out pretty well until he went to a bar a few days before his 21st Birthday which revoked his probation and resulted in him being booted from the team. Someplace other than Ames and Berryman is fine.

Albert Gary did something incredibly stupid. Sounds more like a prank gone bad. Yes, punish him and give him probation. But ruin his life over it? If your kid did what Albert Gary did you would want some compassion from the legal system and some type of common sense used. As far as his playing for ISU, if he gets in any more trouble then he is gone. But I have no problem with him in a Cyclone uniform if Rhoads keeps him on the team.

Why would kicking him off the team ruin his life? White's life wasn't ruined by being kicked out of Minnesota. It can actually help some players that fall in with the wrong croud to have a change of scenery and a new start to refocus on what's really important. I don't know Gary's personal situation so I don't know if it would help him or not, just saying that it's not necessarily a career ending situation.

This is a good way to chase CPR out of town. Gotta support his decision making regarding athletes on his team.

I like CPR and believe he is a good coach, but this is a university issue that goes beyond the athletic dept. CPR is getting paid $20M over 10 years, and he will be just fine. This goes way beyond football.

I bet the most important thing to President Leath today is spending his Easter with family and NOT worrying about how to handle this. It's been handled since before he was named President. As for you reoccurring concern for "central campus", this has no bearing on the decision. Could have happened anywhere on or off campus.....not relevant in any way to how this should be handled.

But it didn`t happen off campus, so this is laid directly at the feet of Steve Leath. I doubt the athletic dept will have any say in what comes next for Mr Gary.

Again, WE ARE and SHOULD BE a place where 2nd chances are given. He had a mental lapse in judgement, give him community service and let him back on the field. We need the kid in the line up anyway. He showed promise at the end of last year. #FREEALBERTGARY

Where it happened is pivotal to how it will be handled. Campus security is the Prez concern. Ask the folks at V-Tech or how about Penn State!!

So...your suggesting that since it was on campus that some higher standard must be carried out? Prank is a prank regardless of where prank takes place. Steve Leath has more important things to do than to deal with pranks.
