I think that he had to say that he preferred to stay at 10 as a political move with other conferences. If we're expanding (and it certainly looks like we are), they didn't bring him in as a reluctant expansion leader. Bowlsby knew full well about this stuff when he took the job. He just can't go saying "Yes, we'd like to expand." He has to keep up appearances, and can't look like a shark that's gutting conferences.

Exactly. And relative to Slive and Delaney, Bowlsby is going to come out looking pretty good in that respect...after all, he's not even on board yet. (Although obviously he's deeply involved in what's going on, even if he's not driving it.) Neinas is still doing a lot of the dirty work.

Bowlsby had to keep up appearances period. Its all about the money so Iowa State should go get as much as they can and if its expanding with 2-6 teams then do it. Obviously traditions just do not matter when it comes to money, big payouts trumps all.

I just hope that when the dust settles and traditions are smashed that everyone remembers mizzou and nebraska started this and texas finished it.

I find myself hoping that if this four superconference thing actually happens, some adult somewhere says, "Okay, things have stabilized and nobody has to be concerned for their school's athletic future anymore. We're all safe and making a lot more money than before, and now that we've all negotiated these new TV deals we're all making close to the same amount. We all have equal access to the new FB playoff system. So how about we do some re-realignment and get back to conferences that make geographic sense."

That ship has sailed obviously. But does anyone think Missouri or Nebraska really walks away from this cash-rich, stable version of the Big 12?

Yes, absolutely nebraskamwould walk away, along with Mizzou. I believe it was released this week that each school in the B1G still receives the largest payout per school of all conferences, followed by the SEC. They have yet to renegotiate their contracts also, so it's only going to get bigger for them. Cash rich Big 12 still does not equal B1G/SEC money, no matter how you look at it!

Well I still can't quite get my head wrapped around the idea that we might be in a conference with FSU and Clemson and play them much more often then Nebraska and Missouri but it may be fun and definitely good for our national exposure.

That brings me to my reason to post. There was a thread on here about our not having any football commitments yet to this point. However, what if the coaches knew this was possible/coming. I know that we have offered quite a few from Florida but it seems that telling them FSU/Clemson are in the same conference would have a big attraction for some of them. Could we be waiting in order for this to be announced and then make the hard sell?

They did walk away so yes, Nebby and Misery are in stable conferences themselves as well that will have big payouts. Our biggest problem was Dan Beebe now that he is gone all the sudden the Big Twelve stabilizes and is more aggressive in adding good quality teams with good academics.

Do I miss Nebby and Misery? Some, but they were a bunch of crybabies and A&M joins the crowd on that one as well. They all left for bigger payouts and now we have a nice package deal going on ourselves. Traditions are old news anymore as Misery, Nebby, and A&M proved that, but yes they walk away.

Does anyone else get a gut feeling that ISU is going to get left out on an even bigger island that it is now if the conference goes the Big 14 route with the new eastern schools? There are 5 schools out east that would need 2 more for the division and kansas and kstate won't break apart from one another so it would make sense for them to join that group. Also the group of schools in the south central are going to want to stick together.

Division A
Florida State
Clemson
West Virginia
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Kansas
Kansas State

Division B
Iowa State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Tech
Texas Christian
Baylor

Maybe, but after the last few years I'll settle for a safe landing and never mind the details. Something about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

That would be rough.

I propose we name the divisions "Fables" and "CEO's"

Ummm, they already left for seemingly more stable situations at the time. So yeah. I'd say chances are high that they walk away....

Yes, but who cares we are in a good position right now with more money heading our way, Iowa State is getting stronger and now with more money and right coaches at the helm we will get stronger.

I can actually sleep this summer when it comes to conference realighnment unlike last year and the year before that. Go Cyclones!!

I said a couple weeks ago that I would be shocked if FSU joins, not so much now instead it is who is going to join. To me it is clear we are heading in the big four outlook and the ACC is just not going to survive. VT, FSU, Clemson, Miami should look for Gr$$ner pastures. Which in a way sucks, but this is just how it is now so better adjust or get left in the dust.

Yuck, I'd much rather be in the division with all the newbies.

I think he said he wanted to "pause" the expansion stuff, but based on these rumors, he might have accidentally hit "fast-forward" instead.

Well, he was with Iowa for all those years, I guess I could see how he could confuse || with >>...

I really don't see that happening, although it would be pretty awesome for recruiting if it did. We could guarantee two games in Texas every season.
