Huge beer snob and proud of it. I won't touch Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors, etc., but I don't look down on those who do.
Personally, I define beer snob not so much what you drink, but your position on what others drink. You can refuse to drink anything but one particular specific beer and think that everything else tastes like urine to you, and not be a beer snob, so long as when confronted with others who think differently, your reaction is "Eh, to each their own".
My personal preference is more along ownership. My go-to beer, especially this time of year is Point Special Lager...a Bud/Miller/Coor type beer that's from a small brewery, but I'll drink most anything if it strikes my fancy. I tend to shy away from the mega-companies and all their owned microbrewed brands (blue moon, goose island, Leine's, etc.), but that's just something I do for the feeling of supporting the people who are driving innovation right now.
Do you beer drinkers enjoy the taste of it? Or just drink it to get smashed? I dont understand because it does neither of the two. Im not trying to cause a rant, i just dont get it.
#1: Yes, most of us.
#2: Personally I don't drink it to get smashed at all, much the opposite, I specifically drink to enjoy it and only rarely (like less than 5 times in the last 8 years), and accidentally, 'get smashed'. Put it this way, for those who appreciate good beer, they're definitely not paying $15-$20 for a 22 ounce bottle to 'get smashed'.
Even if I don't particularly crave a certain style, I can definitely appreciate a well brewed beer for the brewer's ability to make magic out of the same basic ingredients...barley, hops, yeast, and water. (and snobs, stop blathering about purity with the Reinheitsgebot, it was originally more about taxes than purity)
If you don't like the taste, that's fine. more for us. However, I'd be willing to bet that given 6 months, I could find a beer you
really enjoyed.
