Remind me, why did we not want Woodbury?

Iowa plays a faster tempo than we do currently. I'm not suggesting you start wetting your pants, but I'm certain Fred would have taken him in a second, so I'm not sure why you would say you wouldn't want him even if Fred did.

I wouldn't want him because he didn't impress me last night. He played a decent game, but I'd rather have Percy and Georges for the next three/four years. ISU played Mike D'Antoni defense last night, so judging Woodbury's night is impossible.

they had royce and thug life scotty

i dont see korie improving like allen did last year and clyburn wont make up for what we lost in royce and scotty

The younger guys on the team will make big steps and make this team better, something last years team really didnt have. There is still time for Clyburn and Korie to get better.

Kid was a top 50 recruit with offers to every single school not named Kansas and Duke. FH would have taken this kid in a heartbeat. Niang is a stud too, but stop embarrassing yourself. You make our fanbase look butt hurt and sad. Maybe sit the next couple of days on CF out, eh?

Woodbury was impressive last night. He's skinny and relatively weak right now, but to his credit he is not at all timid. Give him a couple years to bulk up and he'll be a monster down low with the ability to run in transition. Anyone saying we would not want this kid on our team needs to stop eating paint chips and grow up.

Last years team did.

Are you sure? Iowa's team was brutal through December last year yet improved enough to go .500 in a good conference and win in the post season. Yes, we'll improve but I'm sure they will, too.

BTW, our top 8 players have all been at ISU for over a year and 6 of the 8 played last season. I'm not buying this excuse that we're a bunch of transfers that need to mold together. My guess is that most teams have have less experience playing together than our guys. We are a GOOD team and we'll work some kinks out as the season goes along.

ISU wasnt good last Dec either and made the 2nd round of the NCAA tourny. Yes most teams have younger guys playing with older guys, but the core of the team has played a lot of game mins together. For ISU this year 2 of the starters and a key roll player have never played a game together before the season started.
I guess I didnt realize Niang was on campus last year.

That must be it.

Excuse me for not envying a rival school's recruits. I happen like the guys that chose to go to school here more.

There is room in between coveting/envying Iowa's players and saying they are garbage and you don't want them. Admitting they have some young talent doesn't mean you love the Hawks or think our players are stiffs. =

We're a veteran team and you think we'll improve throughout the season more than Iowa will?

Remind me again what happened last season? Oh, that's right. ISU was a garbage team early last season (lost to Drake - oh, that's right, that game never happened), gelled as the season went on, finished 3rd in the Big 12, and made the second round of the NCAA Tournament where, if we play any other 1 seed than the team we played, perhaps we're in the Sweet 16.

But you're right - veteran teams NEVER improve as the season goes on

What? We were 10-3 through December last year. Iowa was 9-6.

Thanks for the correction on Niang. Totally whiffed on it. That said, I don't think it changes the overall point. We are working a few new guys in just like anyone else--the differences is that outside of Niang our guys were in the program last year.

Our 3 losses last year? Drake (yes, it DID happen), Northern Iowa, #15 Michigan.
Our 3 losses this year? #22 Cincinnati, #18 UNLV, Iowa.

Methinks we're still at this point in better shape than we were last year.

Those are not terrible losses but we do agree--we are in good shape contrary to what some posters think.

So, because he was a fan of Iowa, we didn't even try? Iowa was garbage for almost half of his life, I would think CFH would at least try! It's amazing North Carolina recruited Barnes, as did Iowa/Kansas/everyone in the nation, given he was a lifelong ISU fan. The whole 'he was a hawk fan' excuse doesn't pass muster with me. All of these kids had a favorite team growing up, most of which were not us.

Don't forget, ISU was garbage for almost half his life, too. In any case, I doubt there are many people on this board who are qualified to answer the question of why we didn't go after him. No sense crying about it now.

What are you talking about? When has ISU been "garbage" in basketball in the last twenty years?

You are proving my point. The 4th best player on the court, and he's a freshman 7 footer! He will only get better each year! Imagine him with another 20 pounds of muscle, a few more offensive moves, and more polished. That's what you will see his junior year!

And go rematch the game. He certainly had a prescience about him on defense. While he didn't block shots or rebound, go ACTH how many times when he was in the game we even tried to go down low. Not everything can be measured in the stat book. Well, maybe you can. Anyone know the splits last night when Woodbury was in the game vs not? I'm going to guess its roughly +20 or more!

Woodbury is a nice player, but I'd be surprised if he is ever all Big 10. Freshman typically get better, but there is no guarantee an it may only be incremental. Last nights win wasn't because Iowa has better talent (Other than White), they played harder and execute better. The got tons of layups because they actually make contact when they set picks. IMO last nights loss is on Fred & staff- our defense stunk!
