How worthless is your life that this worth complaining about?

I guess about as worthless as someone who is complaining about someone else's comments on a message board.

Every time I read one of these threads it just sounds like, "I hate kids having fun while cheering for their team!"

The Pep Band is there for every single game to cheer on their team. Why do you some of you care so much how they do it? Whether the chants "work" or not isn't the point. They're contributing to the atmosphere of the game, and that's what everyone always claims they are looking for.

At NCAA games, bands are super restricted on when and what they can play to keep things as neutral as possible; lots of alternating fight songs between the two bands, so it's usually not the band's choice when they play Fights.

Which has already been covered on CF a million times, so I'm not sure why it keeps being brought up again and again.

Annoying yes. Embarrassment yes. The guys in the front with the glitter hats are .... interesting.

You aren't the show. Quit acting like it.

I hope you think the same of the students that dress up in silly costumes at the home games, they aren't the show, they are just trying to bring attention to themselves.

Honestly it's college kids being college kids, people need to calm down.

Predictable that band people are going to jump in here and demonize the OP, but he's spot on.

Watched the games with several ISU fans and it was unanimous that the chants are far more embarrassing to ISU than clever or funny. Or effective for that matter.

Iowa State band needs to stop with the corny free throw chants.

Band chants = Embarrasing for them. I personally don't care how stupid they sound. They are the band. That really should be embarrassing enough.

You gotta watch out for the nerd mafia. They'll break your thumbs, man!

I hope you feel good about yourself as you disparage one of the most loyal sections of our fanbase. Kudos to you.

They are no more loyal than the rest of us. The only thing different is they play an instrument.

Hence the phrase "one of". I can't tell you how many kids come into school not giving two craps about sports and end up being season ticket holders when they graduate. I guess having a bunch of nerds to go to sporting events can generate some revenue.

That happens with all kinds of students in college.

The band never leaves at the 8:00 media timeout. The band doesn't skip a conference game because "we'll probably beat them anyway". The band doesn't miss a game because "it was snowing outside." Oh let me count the ways. The vast majority of fans (including the posters on this site) aren't the ones I'm comparing them to. The larger point is, this is a group of kids that shows up and is proud of their team and their school, so why do people feel the need to harp on them? Harp on the people who don't show up to games because "they're tired" or "they dont' feel like it". Harp on the people who only seem to care about the team when they go to the postseason, instead of the kids who went to every game of the McDermott era, even when nobody had a reason to give a crap. That's what I'm saying.
