Why would he go to coach in the NBA? What can the NBA offer him over his supposed dream job besides money, something I'm sure he has plenty of over is career between playing for ISU and coaching here?

There's no way for us to outbid the NBA but for now we should just start by paying him fairly relative to the rest of the B12

Awesome article! It feels GREAT having a coach who's coveted by more than just MVC teams.

Yeah, I think he is here awhile. We will probably pay him a bit more, but he is a class guy and knows JP took a risk on him.

As some have said, I could see him leaving later...ont have to recruit in NBA. But, NBA is much easier to get canned, IMO.

I don't believe it's about $$ with CFH, I think it's about pride and being competitive.

BTW, I'm pretty confident that articles like this are written solely because they drum up a lot of page views, not because of their accuracy or likelihood. All this writer has to do is call up a couple GMs, ask them "would you want Fred Hoiberg to be your coach?", and when they say yes, the headline could read "Hoiberg highly-coveted by multiple NBA general managers". BFD.

I've been saying this all year, the only place Fred would leave to go, would be the NBA. Do I believe so right now? No, but stop being so crazy folks. We do this with CPR too. We don't know what they are thinking.

I will say I've been laughing on Twitter at all the Gophers fans saying they should go after Fred. L O L

Is Brey in trouble? Would love it if Fran left Iowa. Don't know if you can sell him to their fan base though. I think his chance of anything higher profile than Iowa are pretty slim. Solid but not spectacular resume, plus his age.

Coach Riteway builds a program with guys who want to be at Iowa. Fred simply gets a bunch of selfish players who ended up at Iowa State.

So we're not supposed to pretend to know what a coach is thinking, but A) you believe the only place he'd go is the NBA, and B) you laugh at the thought of him leaving for Minnesota.

Okay.

What are NBA coaching salaries like these days?

More importantly, how long does the average NBA coach keep his job these days?
Might make more $$ in the short term, but fans, players and owners can all turn fast.
There is only one place you can have a legacy.

Yes, I've met a couple of gopher fans too who are undecided about whether they should go after Fred, because Fred hasn't done enough over a longer period.

My best guess says that Fred loves ISU even more than fanatical fans like me. He wants to bring the whole thing home to Ames more than everyone on this board. That is passion, and it matters more than a few bucks.

Fred also made over $10M in the NBA. He doesnt seem like the kind of guy that would spend that on blow and strippers, so he probaly invested it well. That plus making $1.5M in Iowa, living in his hometown, coaching the team he loves goes along way to living a good life.
