Re: Rashad Vaughn

No, they would have said, "Wow, this is the first time a team ranked 276th nationally in scoring defense, and 134th in defensive efficiency, has made the Final Four in... *you fill in the blank*"

I believe there was a stat posted here, and I don't care enough about this argument to look it up, that over 90% of the Final Four teams ranked in the top 50 in defensive efficiency. Iowa State ranked 134 in that category.

The Final Four teams this year?

2 - Louisville
3 - Syracuse
14 - Wichita State
39 - Michigan

So there you go. That's why ISU was not Final Four caliber. The clones scored at will, but defended like a round of 32 team.

So they would have only said the bad things about a Final Four team and none of the good? Did anyone expect WSU to make it there? Probably not many. So when they did why didn't I hear much about all of the bad parts about the team and none of the good? Hmmmm.

Reading that thread on a gophershole, they were saying that Minnesota has better academics, better athletics (however they admit not in revenue sports lol wtf) and facilities. Hilton is garbage and nobody goes to the games, no history, fred hoiberg is leaving soon and obviously why live in Iowa when you could live in the frozen tundra of minnesota (especially if your an urban youth who loves trees and hockey).

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Well, they do have a lot of National Championship trophies in the little museum at TCF.

From what I can tell, they have 30 National Championships. Some may be a long time ago, but that still is reasonable success.

These are probably the reasons that head coaches were jumping at the opportunity to be their next head coach. Oh wait...

They can live in the past all they want.

I want now.

And completely irrelevant to year 2013 and beyond.

I love the twin cities. Minneapolis is a beautiful area, but Gopher fans have always thought their program is better than it actually is. Them firing Glen Mason is a perfect example of this. They just better hope the same thing doesn't happen to their basketball program after canning Tubby

Which ironically included ISU's coach.

Oh come on....I wouldn't say Hoiberg was jumping at the opportunity to be their coach. He might have listened to them and considered it, but I don't think he was begging for it. If he was, then he would be their coach since they wanted him before they hired little P.

I think you guys might have misread that. He is saying nobody wanted to be their coach. Including Hoiberg.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Actually what they actually did say was isu got hosed. They said isu should be in the round of 16 and if they hadn't gotten hosed they would have been a tough match up for everyone they play.

Round of 32 calibur??? Yep that was ohio state.

Only a hawk fan could ignore what the entire rest of the country saw and said. That's what actually was said. Frick tell me whrn the Hawks are even decent. BAYLOR JUST DUNKED AGAIN.

Who knows where isu would have finished. I certainlyy liked their chances in a one and done scenario. Only a hawk fan could come up with your bs.

How'd that work out for Georgetown, Wisconsin, and Florida (who were all in the Top 5)?

The problem with stupid stats like yours is that they're, well, stupid. It's a fallacy without a causal linkage, and good luck singling out any one factor that's a determinant of who makes the Final Four. Your argument is the logical equivalent of saying "all US presidents have been male; ergo, only males can become president".

And..

...exactly. I needn't say more.

Look, I get it; you don't know much about postseason basketball tournaments with four letters in their name because your team hasn't advanced in one for a dozen years. But you're wrong. Go cry about it on hok nation and debate the "game-changing" merits of Peter Jok. I'm done with this crap, and would like to return to talking about Vaughan.

Weren't you the one bringing up stats in your hypothetical comments of some fantasy announcer pimping out ISU during a non-existent Final Four game? Sorry there guy, looks to me like you want to use your stats and hypotheticals to prove your point, and then cover your ears and close your eyes when the other side is mentioned. And judging by the amount of name calling and swear words in your responses to me (atypical for you), I'd say your grasping at straws here.

My point is this, and rather simple. ISU was not a Final Four caliber team. Why? Because very few can lay claim to that statement. More than four? Yes. More than 30? That's ridiculous.

I'm just as big of a homer as you (obviously). I've bought in to the Iowa National championship talk pre-season 2005 and when they were 9-0 in 2009. But even in 2009, after Stanzi went down, I didn't lay claim on message boards that the Hawks were National Championship caliber.

You're right, this thread derailment is pointless. Vaughn would for sure take ISU to the tournament, and with a little luck, deep into it.

You wanna know something funny? I just googled "most consecutive NIT appearances", and google laughed at me and said "did you mean 'most consecutive NCAA apperances'?".
