I'd being completely fine with Custer, Macura and Colson.
I would sign up for that right now too

You mean the Roy Smith smooze and Calipara hustle eventually wears thin?I feel a lot better about our chances now than I did a month ago
You forgot baby blue eyes. You mean the Roy Smith smooze and Calipara hustle eventually wears thin?
Fred is now in the list of elite college recruiters IMO through hard work, honesty, connections, relationships, and experience. To coin off an old phrase, he has it all for a recruit.
I can agree with this. What can another coach use against Fred when recruiting the same player? Experience is really the only thing I can think of and it's not even a good argument because Fred's proven to be a good X's and O's coach... The long term contract is what really elevated him to the next level IMO...You mean the Roy Smith smooze and Calipara hustle eventually wears thin?

Unfortunately I would expect something like "So do you want the prestige and exposure of playing at Kentucky/North Carolina/Kansas or a backwater like Iowa State?" stated either explicitly or implicitly. And I would expect as much for a while. Just matters whether a recruit goes for something like that or has the confidence to make weigh the programs on current merit alone.
Not trying to be Debbie downer but if I was in that position I would probably try to get that point across.

Also, "I've been to multiple final fours. I've won national championships. I've recruited and coached multiple NBA lottery picks"
some of those are obviously a function of time. I don't necessarily expect Fred should have any of those achievements yet - but for Pitino, Roy, Calipari, Izzo, Donovan - they can all say that.

Agreed. See: Harrison Barnes. If he comes to ISU he is a hometown legend forever. Instead he goes to UNC and he's just another high profile recruit especially since he didn't win a national title for them.A counter point to these arguments... would you rather go to 1 of these schools, and just be "another player" who is good or would you rather go to Iowa State and be treated like a king.
The article at a major blueblood program headlines would read: "Kentucky lands another top recruit" or "UNC lands some more top 10 talent". Doubt his name even makes the article headline, and while he's there for 1 year, he wouldn't get much recognition around the school, he could be outshined by one of his teammates. Or even if he's a big name for the year, they'd forget him the next year.
If he came to Iowa State the ames headlines, and potentially the espn headlines would read: "Iowa State lands Vaughn", and while on campus for the year, he'd make lots of headlines. It'd be like Royce White, where everyone talked about him and his abilities, or Niang last year.
It's been almost 2 full years since White was on campus, but people still mention him regularly. He'd be immortal at Iowa State, or close to it. At Kentucky or North Carolina he'd be just another face in the crowd.
FWIW, I had a random dream a couple of weeks ago we landed Johnson and Macura.
Ehhh, I'm going to go out on the limb here. I would think Vaughn wants to win...ergo not play for the wolves...One thing that might benefit Vaughn with Fred is his connections to the Timberwolves. If Vaughn wants to play in his home state when he goes pro, Fred would have better connections there than probably any active coach.

Abdul Malik-Abu could go through an entire game w-o having a single play run for him. And he'd still wind up with a double-double.
I had to "like" this and reply, it's so good.
