If anyone wants to see what keeping things simple can do for you, (gulp), see: the Iowa/OSU game today. Iowa simply does pretty well in the trenches, and doesn't need anything spectacular from their specialists to make it a game. They need a QB who can play pass/catch, and a running back who can run forward. Yeah, OSU simply had more when it came to speed on the outside late in the game. But, when an O-line is even remotely decent, the playbook doesn't have to be very complex to simply move the chains and give the team a chance late. They've played that way since Ferentz got there, and while it hasn't always been great, there's still a feeling that they have a chance, because at least they know what they can do well.
Is ISU a passing team? Spread? Running? Option?
The O-line looks AWFUL--they made a marginal Baylor D look like Alabama. People can blame Richardson all they want--the fact that he was able to get first downs tonight was remarkable.
I have enjoyed what Rhoads has done to excite the program and make it interesting, but a 'young' team that was supposed to be the fastest he's had looked like a badly-coached high school team tonight. In mid-October, nobody's young. I really think if Baylor played a decent team they'd get worked from all angles. They're good, but not THAT good.
Another note (and I think these little things go a long way): when your team is down 27-0, it looks even worse when the d-backs are talking s**t to the opposing team after another first down, or even a pass break up. That's completely garbage football, and someone needs to be held accountable for it.
I actually thinkTrue, but don't forget our offense sucked with like three NFL guys on it too.
I wouldn't mind so much if we gave up 70 points trying to win the game with onside kicks and going for it on 4th etc. But to not even attempt to get anything going or call a fake punt or anything makes me sad.
ISU wasn't going to win this game. D made very few stops and O was nowhere to be found. Special teams gives up two scores. Baylor's backup qb runs for a TD almost untouched. The offensive line stunk, QB handing to the back when they should keep on the read. Not happening today.Agree in overall sense.
ISU didn't even go for it on 4th down in Baylor territory after good defensive stop and a nice punt return with the score 0-0 in a game it probably couldn't win without some calculated risks (or a significant turnover margin).
Try some of that even before a fake punt or halfback-pass or whatever, before it's 17-0.
I'd agree with you on Iowa, except that they lost. Keeping it close to the vest had the margin a lot lower, but a loss is still a loss. Lord knows we've had enough of those this year, and moral victories are still not victories.
I'm just thankful ISU didn't lay this egg at Jack Trice with me in attendance.
Try being John Walters and Eric Heft.I've apologized to myself for listening to the game.
I'm glad that I didn't get the sports pack to watch it.
I actually think
Two years ago's line
+ a healthy Richardson
+ the skill position players now
= a respectable offense (33-35 ppg)
Unfortunately we are missing 2 of those 3 things. Our margin for error is razor thin and I'm probably never going to see the stars align that well in my lifetime for ISU football.
Our line is unquestionably worse
Our quarterback is supposedly better when healthy but we have no idea
Our skill position players are YEARS better than they used to be.
He needs to wise up. Stoops, Briles and others will take no prisoners.CPR was playing to try and keep the score respectable. In doing so he let them run the score up.
Try being John Walters and Eric Heft.
It is what it is. Let it go. What do you want him to say anyway, a bunch of Capt. Kirk rhetoric. Yea he's ****** and not very happy. How do you prepare for a team like Baylor with so much speed. We just didn't have the talent to play against this team. It wasn't the coaches faults. We just got our *sses rung up, plain and simple. Step back and take a look at the big picture.

I pay like $8 a month to get ESPNU so I can watch games and I didn't, I think I made the right call.I've apologized to myself for listening to the game.

Most of the people on message boards should apologize to Rhoads for their entitlement. It amazes me how people on here constantly say that the fans have stepped up and the team has not. Our tailgating and game experience is great and will continue to be win or loose. Everyone knew going into the season that it would be a rough one. With the exception of tonight, every game has been close and very fun to watch. College football is entertainment and our Clones have delivered on the entertainment. If you can't figure that out stay home. And while you are at it stay way from CF because all you are doing is making our future recruits think you are all the voice of CyclONE nation when actually you are the very silent minority.
