What the hell are they preparing for? cause it sure as hell wasn't Baylor. Maybe they were just warming up the Preperation H.

If anyone wants to see what keeping things simple can do for you, (gulp), see: the Iowa/OSU game today. Iowa simply does pretty well in the trenches, and doesn't need anything spectacular from their specialists to make it a game. They need a QB who can play pass/catch, and a running back who can run forward. Yeah, OSU simply had more when it came to speed on the outside late in the game. But, when an O-line is even remotely decent, the playbook doesn't have to be very complex to simply move the chains and give the team a chance late. They've played that way since Ferentz got there, and while it hasn't always been great, there's still a feeling that they have a chance, because at least they know what they can do well.

Is ISU a passing team? Spread? Running? Option?

The O-line looks AWFUL--they made a marginal Baylor D look like Alabama. People can blame Richardson all they want--the fact that he was able to get first downs tonight was remarkable.

I have enjoyed what Rhoads has done to excite the program and make it interesting, but a 'young' team that was supposed to be the fastest he's had looked like a badly-coached high school team tonight. In mid-October, nobody's young. I really think if Baylor played a decent team they'd get worked from all angles. They're good, but not THAT good.

Another note (and I think these little things go a long way): when your team is down 27-0, it looks even worse when the d-backs are talking s**t to the opposing team after another first down, or even a pass break up. That's completely garbage football, and someone needs to be held accountable for it.

I'd agree with you on Iowa, except that they lost. Keeping it close to the vest had the margin a lot lower, but a loss is still a loss. Lord knows we've had enough of those this year, and moral victories are still not victories.

I'm just thankful ISU didn't lay this egg at Jack Trice with me in attendance.

True, but don't forget our offense sucked with like three NFL guys on it too.
I actually think

Two years ago's line
+ a healthy Richardson
+ the skill position players now
= a respectable offense (33-35 ppg)

Unfortunately we are missing 2 of those 3 things. Our margin for error is razor thin and I'm probably never going to see the stars align that well in my lifetime for ISU football.

Our line is unquestionably worse
Our quarterback is supposedly better when healthy but we have no idea
Our skill position players are YEARS better than they used to be.

I wouldn't mind so much if we gave up 70 points trying to win the game with onside kicks and going for it on 4th etc. But to not even attempt to get anything going or call a fake punt or anything makes me sad.

Agree in overall sense.

ISU didn't even go for it on 4th down in Baylor territory after good defensive stop and a nice punt return with the score 0-0 in a game it probably couldn't win without some calculated risks (or a significant turnover margin).

Try some of that even before a fake punt or halfback-pass or whatever, before it's 17-0.

ISU wasn't going to win this game. D made very few stops and O was nowhere to be found. Special teams gives up two scores. Baylor's backup qb runs for a TD almost untouched. The offensive line stunk, QB handing to the back when they should keep on the read. Not happening today.

A loss is a loss, but when the game plan should be to have your offense be your best defense, and the team does the exact opposite of that, it's because there's no movement on the line, among other things.

In other words, I'd rather see ISU down 7-10 going into the 4th, than looking like a D3 team against a somewhat decent Baylor team.

Tonight, who would want to play qb?

It is what it is. Let it go. What do you want him to say anyway, a bunch of Capt. Kirk rhetoric. Yea he's ****** and not very happy. How do you prepare for a team like Baylor with so much speed. We just didn't have the talent to play against this team. It wasn't the coaches faults. We just got our *sses rung up, plain and simple. Step back and take a look at the big picture.

Did you just say when we lose it isn't the coaches fault?

You obviously aren't really grasping what exactly the job of a coach is...

The lack of standards ISU fans have is amazing. It isn't the coaches fault... haha.

Most of the people on message boards should apologize to Rhoads for their entitlement. It amazes me how people on here constantly say that the fans have stepped up and the team has not. Our tailgating and game experience is great and will continue to be win or loose. Everyone knew going into the season that it would be a rough one. With the exception of tonight, every game has been close and very fun to watch. College football is entertainment and our Clones have delivered on the entertainment. If you can't figure that out stay home. And while you are at it stay way from CF because all you are doing is making our future recruits think you are all the voice of CyclONE nation when actually you are the very silent minority.

This is what bother me on offense more than anything. You have Bundrage out there who is a legitimate #1 receiver and probably the most complete receiver we have had in maybe ever and you can't find ways to use him. Then you have Jarvis who can do a lot with the ball in his hands (He has proven this) and you can't get it to him. You can't get Wimberly in space. I also think Daley and Harris could be as good as Bundrage. They hardly play because ALbert Gary is out there taking up space and doing mostly nothing since 2011. Nealy is another guy who I think could do some things. I don't think the Oline could be better than below average. This whole flipping thing is ******* stupid, ineffective and puts guys in a position where now they have just one more thing changing all of the time. I haven't paid a lot of attention but it seems like our guys have a lot of trouble figuring out who to block. Then, pile on top of that they they are young from a development and experience standpoint and they just aren't good. Then you pile on top of that that Mess has no idea how to put an offense together based on short quick stuff to set up some sort of running game. Instead, we will pound our head into the line with no room and then we will try to do something deep but we won't actually ever throw it there because we have mind****ed our QB by osmosis since he saw guys turn the ball over and get yanked all the time. Firing Mess probably does nothing right now. You arne't hiring anyone right now anyway. I do think Sturdy deserves to stay on staff and I would be willing to give Klenakis time because his body of work is good and it seems like a completely different blocking ideal. If I'm Rhoads, here's what I do.

Keep Klenakis and Sturdy at their current positions.
Fire Bleil
Hire Sage as just a QB coach
Hire a new OC. He's also the TE coach because, let's face it, they can just work with one group or the other. I don't see a need for a specific coach for them. I'd rather have a QB coach. Now, if you were to hire a guy like Scott Frost who coaches QBs, fine, let him bring some young guy in to coach TEs. Frost is just an example. I'm not saying we have any sort of chance of hiring because, well, his current spot kind of rocks. This offense needs fresh blood.

Its not that they lost its how they lost. They did nothing well. The game plan sucked. Some of us pay a lot of money to support ISU and at somepoint want to get some bang for our buck.
