Good teams struggle with tough turds all the time. If this becomes the norm, I'd be more worried. Since they won, and demolished another team of equal or slightly more talent than this one, I'd venture to say today was an anomaly.

I've watch two full games of UNCW now, UNO is a better team. It's weird since they're not even eligible for the NCAA tournament, but they were more athletic and bigger than UNCW.

That said Iowa made SEVEN less field goals in a win. It was a homer job. White was attacking the basket and earned his free throws. Most of the rest were a gift. UNO's guards were attacking the basket much more than Iowa's, yet Marble got 14 free throws while UNO's guards who attacked much more got 6, 2, and 2. It's a win, but wouldn't have been a win in any other building.

Iowa is not good at shooting a basketball, they put the basket in the hoop 21 times without the refs helping against a bad team. They'll win some games and make the dance, but I'll be shocked if they even sniff the astronomical expectations of Iowa fans.

I'm just claiming that all Iowa fans know nothing about the sports that "their" teams play.

When the rest of the country agrees that ISU gets screwed, you'd think Iowa fans would get it. I guess not.

Homerism is very common in sports. Iowa won because of it today, but you won't have homerism on your side when you play us.

The Cyclones got jobbed against Texas. Go to HN, there was a thread about it, and 99% agreed ISU got jobbed (some of them found glee in it) but the know ISU got hosed......it happens. I wonder if Wisconsin fan obsession about the refs in every game cause they got jobbed out of a win by the refs as well????

Somewhere in the U.S.
In BIG play on the road the Hawks shot 179 FT in 9 games for an avg. of basically 20 per game.

They shot 896 total over 38 games for an avg. of 23.5 FT per game.

Hardly a "staggering" difference. I would bet 95% or more of teams avg. more FT at home, than on the road.

You can't use a comparative of 9 games to 38 games. Not comparative samples. Plus, you put the 9 games in with the 38 games, so you gave it added weight in the 38 total. Do they not teach statistics at Iowa?

Just removing those 9 games jumps your average to 24.7, but you also need to remove the road non-con games and you should remove all neutral site games to get the true averages.

I think we agree on just about everything. Obviously UNO is better, but Iowa made them look better than they should have today. I'm not in panic mode, Hawks have shown they can win without hitting outside shots. My expectations are 1-1 in the NCAA this year, with an outside shot at the second weekend depending on the seeding. Today's game has done nothing to change that for me. A few more like this, then I'll re-examine.

Hey, come on be unreasonable like the guys on hn.com...I'm not one of the Cyclone fans who think Iowa is going to suck or miss the tournament so I guess we're cool ;-)

What I do know is that Big Ten basketball is going to be really interesting given the new calls emphasis, much more than the other major conferences. I'm sure there will be B1G games like the last two where Iowa gets in the 40-50 ft range, but they can't count on the refs awarding them 50 fts on the road or at home against MU/MSU/Indiana.

My $0.02: Iowa will have trouble consistently shooting from the outside, and they won't always be able to lean on such a huge inside advantage to get points like they did today.

This is only based on one game so it's not worth a whole lot. But if Iowa continues to struggle from range, which has been an issue for them for a while, then they may not make as large of a stride this year as people were expecting.
