Agreed on the last two but I don't think the first part is a realistic possibility this year. If I were Fran I'd run a 3/4 court press every once in awhile, and definitely when the ISU's 2 freshmen are in the game. I don't think ISU has handled it very well, even against Auburn's incredibly lazy press they made too many poor decisions.

That's what scares me. Monte Morris has looked very uncomfortable against full-court pressure.

That doesn't mean that both teams weren't top 25 teams. Rankings really don't mean much until the end of the season anyway. In a few weeks if both Iowa State and Iowa aren't in the top 25, will this game still have been a top 25 match up?

It's really a pretty simple concept.
You're trying too hard. You should stop.

Yes, because at the time it was played, they were both top 25 teams. Using your logic.....whatever ranking a team is now means nothing. If it only matters at the end of the season, then why even bother with rankings at all now until then? I said neither team had been involved in a Top 25 match-up yet this year, which is still true. No matter how good a team is, they are not Top 25 until the rankings say so.....theory or hunches or other opinions don't matter. The rankings are what says a team is Top 25 at any given time, nothing else.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. The further into the season you go, the more the rankings actually matter. Being ranked #1 pre-season really only means that people think you're good. Last year Kentucky was ranked in most top 5 polls to start the season. They didn't even end up making the tournament. So what did that ranking really end up meaning? Nothing. It meant people thought they would be good, but by the end of the season it didn't matter at all. It's where you finish that matters.

No matter how good a team is, they are not Top 25 until the rankings say so.....

Right. So since both Michigan and ISU are in the Top 25 right now, that game currently looks like it was a top 25 match up. Correct?

What I'm saying is, we really won't know until the end of the season. Duke and Kentucky played early last year, both ranked in the top 10 at the time. But it turns out that Kentucky wasn't a top 10 team. So that game, while it was a top 10 match-up at the time, really didn't end up being a game between two top-10 caliber teams.

I will say this again...

Iowa has a darn fine team this year. They will give us everything we can handle on the court and we'll be damn lucky to to get out with a win. I also think Iowa can legitimately challenge for 2-4 in the Big 10 this year. They present a difficult matchup for pretty much everyone with their length and depth.

Having said that, they are easily the ugliest team in BBall.

White, Utoff, and Woodbury = murders row, that is if looks could kill.

Yeah, being in Hilton vs at Provo with the game on the line should work wonders for his ability to handle the press. CFH has given a couple of interviews making it sound like they worked a lot on press breaks during the down time.

A friend asked if he could use my son's ticket for the game, darn nice of him. I told him even if I couldn't use the tickets I wouldn't give them to a Hawkeye fan and he isn't even an obnoxious Hawkeye fan. That brought up the question, how much would a Hawkeye fan have to give to give up my tickets to the game? For reference, section 233 row 10. I figure $100-$200/ticket would be my breaking point. Were is your breaking point?

If a relative needed a kidney, I would take a straight up trade. That's about the only time I would ever give up my home tickets to a Hawkeye fan.

Why on earth would you curse someone with a Hawk kidney? Think of all of the booze/ethanol gasoline/huffed paint thinner that has coursed through that thing.

Iowa has played a lot of close games this year, they have shown Fred a lot in their games because they have had to to win them. That can only help us. Fred is a genius at breaking things down and we have plenty of time to work on what iowa is going to throw at us.

Iowa will have trouble rebounding against us because we are so active on the glass which they really aren't despite their overall size as a team. White looks like he should be getting 8 boards a game but he doesn't. Woodbury doesn't move well enough to be super active on the glass and Basabe is a waste as far as rebounding goes.

ISU needs to break pressure consistently and drill open 3's after its broken and/or shoot their zone to pieces. Also need to limite their runouts because that is where White is most effective, he isn't good on the dribble or down low on the block. It would be nice for Kane to foul out everyone who tries to guard him. It will be interesting who Iowa tries to put on him initially. My guess is the matchups initially will be :

Kane:Marble
Thomas:Gessel
Hogue:Basabe
Ejim:White
Niang:Woodbury (for 2 quick fouls) then McCabe/Utoff will come in.

I wouldnt, but if I had to give up my tickets that's about the only thing I would give them up for. Besides I think it would be okay unless it was Vodka Sam's kidney/liver.

As someone else mentioned playing the press on the road is a heck of a lot different than at home.
If you want to get them out of it, just attack it, Woodbury has been nothing short of a pylon in the post.

There was alot of Woodbury talk earlier in some thread. He is not that good. We are better off with him on the floor. Iowa is a much better team when they go with Ginger, Little Ginger, Skeletor, Hyphen-Marble and Limey. Every other combination is not an issue.

That really depends on if they are going to call the reach in fouls and slapping in the general direction of the ball or not. If not, he may end up with a dozen blocks. If they do he could be fouled out in 12 minutes.

Thanks. I only remember two of their names but I actually understood who you were talking about.

I failed to mention the really angry guy that shoots some threes and otherwise just runs around with a scowl. Looks like a UPS driver. He's okay.
