Adrian Peterson anyone?

Absolutely. Had the pleasure of seeing him play HS ball here in Texas. Warren has a similar upright running style with similar speed. Said that to my son and he said he thought the same thing. Good call!

So we just signed AP's clone at RB...Sweet! Kool-Aids flowing strong around here tonight!

Didn't read anyone billing him being the next AP. Similarities are fairly apparent tho. Always gotta be a pessimist nearby, huh?

I've heard this over and over. Standard is not the same type of back as Woody (not nearly as big). Besides, Woody was never utilized on many goal line situations like he should have been. See Texas, 4th Qtr, Ball on Texas 8 yard line. Standard may be our bigger back but I would not classify him as a FB/Goal line type of guy. We don't have another Jeff Woody body type unless he is a walk on?

Not mad at the person who posted this, but still mad at Mess for not putting Woody, and the Texas game away, when we could have.

I could see Martinez Syria being a Woody type of back. I think Warren will be our #3 guy this coming year behind Wimberly and Nealy. I have heard he is great at catching out of the backfield. Reminds of of Mangino doing that with his RB at Kansas (Sharp?).

In his highlights what stands out most is how he doesn't slow down in dealing with potential threats, he makes subtle cuts. Many times it appears like he subconsciously deals with the closest defender and has moved on to setting up the next defender. I hate to participate in the AD comparison but he was AMAZING at this in college. Besides his power/speed combo he had a knack for just running by guys when it looked like he barely made a move.

Desperately needed a bigger running back. Lot what is wrong with this offense is not having that big Crutchfield running back you can give it to and have him get two or three yards when there isn't anything there.

I want to see this speed and shiftiness used; I do not want to hear that ____________ is a better blocker.

We desperately need a line that can remain healthy, run block and get to the second level on a consistent basis. We get that, and any one of our backs have the talent to be really special.

Throw in a RB with good size, speed, and vision and we have an all big12 back... If not all-American.

I realize the above can be attributed to any team, but we've been missing this for far too long.

Couldn't agree more. I hope Campos has added a bunch of weight heading into fall and ends up being a bad mofo. Maybe he will beat out Jacob "False Start" Gannon. The line will have depth this year, they really just need to stay healthy.

I thought trelle was an all purpose back listing on rivals

Yes, Shontrelle was the #28 All-Purpose Back, which is different from Running Back. And also DeVondrick Nealy was the #9 All-Purpose Back when he was a recruit.

Warren being the #35 Running Back on Rivals is pretty solid. For some context Alexander Robinson was the #52 RB in his class on Rivals.

Given the disaster that was the offense and OL last year and basically the entire offensive staff is being replaced I'm going to wipe out the entire 2013 season from my mind and everybody starts at zero.

Are you the voice inside Paul Rhoads' head? Because dang, that's exactly what I'd expect him to say (behind closed doors, of course).

Rob Standard . . . on the latest roster he's listed at 208 lbs. Seems like he was listed at 215 lbs last spring, when his performance in the spring game raised eyebrows. He ran with fullback-like power, on one red zone play shedding tacklers and thundering into the end zone.

Much faster than Woody (the gods love him!) but runs with the same sort of authority. Some here won't be surprised to see Rob emerge as a situational option. Plus, is he entering his fourth year in the program? Maturity, weight-training, personal development . . . except for the rare, gifted rookie, the upperclassmen have great advantages over newcomers (wasn't it Coach McKnight who was emphatic on this point in an interview here within the past year?).

OTOH, we roster only four scholarship backs at this moment (five total). Aaron W is a senior, Rob S and DeVondrick N are rJr's. Looks like there will be opportunity in fall camp for youths to prove they can help the offense move the 'skin. Just three upperclassmen. Interesting to see what develops this spring with CMM running the offensive show.

I can't be the only one here, I hope, who believes Rob S. is ready to make a sound contribution to this team. Don't recall a thing, though, about his blocking ability. Anyone notice that last spring?

I hope he can step up and get some PT. He was an amazing back in HS, didn't he set the MO record for yards in a career?

This is his 4th year in the program with only a handful of carries to his name. I hope he is ready to handle a bigger load.

I have high hopes for Standard. Feel he will be our short yardage back. With this many years in the system he should be a decent blocker. And we could run some 2 back sets as Mangino gives the defense different looks.

I was looking back to CPR's first recruiting class. No one was really rated very high. Knott and Klein ended up being very good. And we hit on a few others. But we missed on quite a few which is one of the reasons we are such a young squad today.

I think that Standard can be an effective short yardage player. He's strong enough and I think that he can do a good job of finding creases and picking up first downs. I don't know that he will be an effective lead blocker though. Maybe he can, but he doesn't have great size and we've just never seen him do it. Pretty tough to expect Syria to do that as a TRFR either. My guess is that they find a walk-on like Peters to play some H-Back. Sounds to me like Mangino is going to have them in one back sets most of the time, but there's going to be a need for a lead blocker at times and with Woody gone, there really isn't a scholarship player that can do that. Bibbs and Boesen aren't that player.
