What is the problem? This is a you problem. It's the students who ONLY show up for the Iowa, Michigan, and KU games all season long who are the problem with attendance.

Makes sense to open up the upper level and sell those seats to all the games EXCEPT IA and KU
The lines
Selling tickets is kinda a pain in the ***
Seriously, guy almost didn't go to the game because he didn't have anyone to go with? Wow...
I rarely had anyone with me at women's bball and volleyball games; I didn't have a problem sitting by myself.
Who else would read this? Only students on CF are gonna read it. It is implied that they are complaining to the students on here, otherwise they would post it on a more public forum.
Youre probably not the average fan, hence youre on CF. A lot of people would skip a game, especially if it involved hours freezing your *** off, if it meant going alone.
There is a huge student run event on campus today. ISU dance marathon at the MU. Lots of kids there and couldn't make the game. Don't be so quick to judge.
As a student, I was disappointed in my friends cuz the two I usually go with both bailed (one was hungover... ***** and one had a major project). There's a lot of reasons that the attendance is so low though:
The lines I almost didn't go since I couldn't find someone to go with until 45 minutes before tip-off and figured I would likely not get a seat. As a student, you never know whether you'll get turned away and have to walk home after walking to Hilton in the cold and snow. After KSU and OU, I'll know now that I can show up after they start letting students in and still get a seat, but many students feel like games are too much of a time investment since you often have two home games in a week and the popular games you'll have to wait in line for two-three hours plus the two hours of game time. The Iowa and MU game were miserable. The waiting in line turned off a *lot* of students. I was in line for Iowa 4 hours before tipoff and was one of the last 20 or so people let in. Had to split the whole group up and take single seats.
Selling tickets is kinda a pain in the *** Student tickets can't be sold on TicketExchange, so in order to sell tickets, you have to meet up with the person to ensure they pay you. You can email a ticket to someone, but you can't exchange money for the ticket through the login. I've had friends get ripped off by forwarding a ticket to someone and then not getting paid back.
BBall tickets sell out early I have a friend who wanted basketball tickets but were in consideration for an internship which would have meant they would be in another state for the fall and first half of spring semesters. They didn't try and buy tickets until they were certain of their plans until May, by which time all tickets were sold out. I have a number of friends who went to games consistently last year but didn't get tickets this year since they sold out soon after going on sale. Part of this is reminding students nearer to the deadline.
Part of the solution would be to only have Iowa/KU, etc. tickets for the first 3,000 or so student tickets so those would be the only games where people would know they'd have to camp out. I say oversell the other games by even more. You'll get more of the "sure i'll go, what the hell" sort of crowd.
I'm also all for making students be in their seats 30 minutes before tip and selling extra seats. Maybe have a gamewatch in Scheman for people who want to be on standby for those tickets so at least they don't have to go all the way to Hilton to be turned away and go home.
And don't worry. I'm giving my friends a very hard time.
if I'm buying season tix they better include the KU game. but I do agree students should have to register 2 days in advance and sell the reminder as singles.
It's more like two hundred empty, not 1,000.
Yes, ISU has a pretty successful history in wrestling. Perhaps you should read up on ISU's cross country / track & field history. Historically ISU has had some fair national success there as well. Pollard has tried to support all ISU sports.I would say he cares more about being good at track and cross country than wrestling which seems pretty personal. Wrestling is our most successful sport historically and and we were on the map amongst a very loyal audience in that sport. It does matter. P1ssing away our relevance in the only sport we are a "blue blood" very well could be part of Jamie's legacy. That said he is a great AD, my main problem with me is he cannot control his impulsively . He needs to have a way to let better heads prevail, if he doesn't he will eventually do something he can't survive professionally.
I always figured he second one here was part of it, and the first makes sense too. After the big games with lines literally wrapping around hilton, a LOT of people arent going to stand in line for 4 hours in sub-freezing weather. Its an irony that over-selling could actually be decreasing attendance.
And yeah, the difference in resale has to be taken into account. In other sections its very easy to resell if you cant go to a game, and you can even make a really good amount of money doing it. It sounds like students have to go through a pain in the *** process for doing so. Why not allow the students to sell those to anyone as 'general admission vouchers' or something, and those only are allowed access to the upper deck portion of the student section.
And really, if you looked around, even with it being easier to resell in other sections, there were holes all over the place if you looked carefully. Some just one or two at a time, some hidden by everyone putting their coats on a chair, etc. The student section will always look a lot worse since they consolidate their empties to the back.
I'm not going to speak for everybody, but there were major events on campus that day as well, and it's getting close to exam times. Sorry to our AD for doing the whole college thing. Anyone who spent gobs of money to go to the college isn't going to be guilt tripped by the athletic director or other fans for not going to the game.
