Wow. I could enjoy myself for hours just finding all the ridiculously overblown reactions by posters here.
-stupid comments
-stupid and whiny (actually "whinny," but I will give him the benefit of the doubt)
and from Hawkaholic alone:
-arrogant tone
-incredibly distasteful
-arrogant, obnoxious, immature and hypocritical
-look like a 6th grader who just won over a girl that I was competing with a friend over
Where do you find any of this in Rhoads' words? Was he crowing a bit over snagging a four-star recruit from the likes of Notre Dame and Iowa? Sure. What makes that "incredibly distasteful" or "stupid and whiny"? And where, ANYWHERE, in what he said, do you see evidence of calling anybody out for negative recruiting? That's right ... nowhere. But you yokels keep bringing it up, because somebody somewhere else said that must be what motivated Rhoads to spout his "distasteful," "arrogant," "immature" words.
Here's the biggest angle I see, mainly from the media. And I use our friend Hawkaholic's words again to make the point:
I guess I'm just saying Lazard going to Iowa State probably left a lot of people dumbfounded
Indeed, it probably did - including several members of the media, who were
actively rooting over the past 14 months for Lazard to go somewhere else. I think it's particularly "hypocritical" (to borrow a word) for the media tasked with covering a state institution football program to actually try to undermine that program's recruiting, then get all huffy when they are called out on it.
