If we get a SG transfer like mason or Dejan-Jones, I think it would make sense for Clay Custer to take a RS year. Not a huge kid and could space out talent at PG. Monte will easily start next year, and naz and Georges can fill in when he is out.
You mean, so that he could be the same class as Jarvis Johnson?

your right shooting 3 pointers isnt your style.

I don't think anybody has said we don't shoot/make a lot of 3 pointers; what people have said is that we haven't always had 4 or 5 guys on the floor who can shoot 3 pointers. With the right personnel, 2 or 3 shooters can maintain that average.

Anyone else hearing Mike Gessell. I am hearing that. I would assume Creighton would be a good landing spot.

Outside of message board rumors I haven't heard anything. Talking to my Hawkeye friends I've thought there would be a transfer or two. Losing Gessell would be a big blow to them next year.

Regarding Nader, I don't think he will start at the 2. The starting 5 will be interesting next year, but with any transfers we pick up Fred is going to have some tough decisions to make on who starts.

Custer isn't redshirting either.

I'm not really hearing it but it would make sense. When you bring a JUCO in, even one that is probably just being used as a pawn to bring Atwood in, it has to raise question marks. I don't see Gesell as being the type of guy that is going to want to share minutes after the shifts he's put in the last 2 years and how much bs he's put up with from The Mad Fran.

SDW wasn't that far from being a four-star on rivals, and he redshirted. Not saying Custer will, but if he's not ready to play then why not?

SDW also weighed 170 lbs at 6'4". Custer is 6 foot flat and 170lbs. Monte is 6'2" and 170lbs. Custer is at a better weight for his size. SDW redshirted mainly be we had a bunch of guards last year and he was skinny as a rail.

They used the weight excuse, but he also hasn't exactly seen stellar minutes this year, so that may not have been the only reason.

Custer is going to be big for us next year, or at least have an important role. I'm hoping he can be a Monte 2.0 and provide big back up minutes....and make free throws.

SDW wasn't ready plain and simple. He has high potential, was undersized, and played at a stacked position. The biggest thing is he was willing too, which most basketball players aren't. SDW is the exception, not the rule.

Just FWIW on rivals SDW was #125 in the nation and Custer is #90. 4 star cutoff is at #100 I think. So this is decently accurate.

Gessell would thrive under a coach like Fred. Fran has completely taken every ounce of confidence from Mike. I'm not saying he would be All-Conference or even start but he would reach his full potenial (like most other players on our roster).

Don't you have to sit out two years instead of just one when you transfer within the conference or to rival schools?

There isn't a hard and fast cut-off since the # of 4 stars changes each year, but you're right that usually the border fluctuates around 100.

Ok. I know it's close because Custer started a 4, went down to a 3 as the #100 player as he got jumped by a few guys as they were evaluated, and then jumped back up.

Getting transfers is kind of like getting free agents in the NBA compared to getting players through the draft. It's a safer bet to spend money or recruiting resources on someone you can watch tape on playing against current competition (or competition that is similar).

There is a larger risk getting kids out of high school - and if there are kids with super high talent levels like Wiggins who are low risk you still only get them for a short period of time. I just get ****** off when people talk about "doing it the right way" - doing it the right way is following all of the rules, which we are doing, and winning.
