I'll start by saying that I have not read the books, so I'm not trying to spoil anything - just my observations. I re-watched last night's episode over lunch today and here's what I noticed prior to Joffrey's death. When he poured the wine onto Tyrion, he wiped the inside of the cup with his finger and licked it, so that means if it was the wine that killed him it had to have been put in after Tyrion re-filled the cup. 2nd, when Margery announced the pie had arrived, Joffrey turns towards her and takes a quick drink before handing the cup to her. After he handed it to her, she sat it down near Grandma Tyrell (forgot her name). So my super-sleuthing skills lead me to believe old lady Tyrell did it.

I think it was Granny Tyrell too.

I believe so too, but what would be her motivation? The Lannisters surely will not let Margery rule as queen, so she would seem to be hurting herself by killing Joffrey.

With Joff dead, Margaery is not queen anymore. There's no male heir. She was queen for all of a couple hours. The line of succession goes back to the next son in the Baratheon line.

But she *could* marry Tommen now. He's not near the monster Joff was... yet. Not saying that is/was the plan but it is a possibility.

The thing that stands out to me during the reception was that Margaery fed Joffery the pie. Maybe that just throws her off the scent.

Okay, after thinking this over for a bit, I think Cersei did the dastardly deed and here's why…

If her son is married off, she becomes the former queen regent and loses all her power.

When she was trolling Maester Parcell, she told him to reverse the decision to give the extra food to the poor of Kings Landing and instead feed it to the dogs. It's easier to cover up poisoned food fed to dogs than to have dead people popping up all over Kings Landing.

Jaime Lannister stating to Loras that if he and Cersei were to get married, that Cersei would kill him and if she was with child, she'd be sure that didn't happen as well.

Lastly, she's a crazy *****.

I'm in the same boat. Don't know anything for sure. I think it was the pie that was poisoned and not the glass of wine. He eats the pie and comments on it's dryness. Also, it's clear Dontos at least knew what was going on with the way he got Sansa out of there as soon as Joffrey started acting wierd.

But I think it showed servants were passing out lots of slices of pie.

Dude, all I can say is that this thread has been moderated to beat heck, mostly so that you don't freak out on people again. People are allowed to discuss the show. If you don't like it, please don't open it. We're going overboard deleting "spoilers."

I think it's more people have a hard time being told that their theories are wrong.

The books that comprise the TV series (as of now) are 10-20 years old, which means "future events" being discussed or theories being shot down hardly qualifies as spoilers - the information has been out there for a long time already. It's out if courtesy to those that haven't read 10-20 year old books that people are asked to keep spoilers to a minimum. However, it doesn't give those that haven't taken taken the time to read the series a license to be douchey when it gets "spoiled". Like I said, information from a story that is 10-20 years old hardly qualifies as being a spoiler.

What part of Season 4 do you not get? Can I be douchey if you get off subject? I've read all the books, but you guys are freaking obnoxious in this thread.

And, Janny, to say nobody is giving anything away is flat out wrong. Benjay got spoiled yesterday.

He did, and we're trying really, really hard to clean those up as we catch them. We need people to stop posting spoilers (please, just stop), but we're also taking a ton of time moderating every single post in these to try and micromanage people finding out about stuff that is all over the internet.

The vast majority of people are playing by the internet "rules." Slamming people with personal attacks for discussing a show just isn't okay, it's against site rules and bannable. There are people in here asking questions, and MOST of the people responding at this point are just answering those questions.

However, to those who are posting spoilers - please, just knock it off. We're clearly not going to ban you for doing that, it's just a TV show thread, but it's not enjoyable for anyone at all (including the mods). Thank you.

and the spoiler post was deleted in less than a minute, and a warning was posted. We're doing our best to keep this thread spoiler free, and doing a pretty good job of it. But obviously people can try to slip them in. To my knowledge, that's not happening, at least not intentional spoilers.

I say it's the pie, but only because it seems to annoy you

You were always good at annoying me. It's not the pie! It was obviously very fast acting and he didn't react till he drank the wine. When he goes to cut the pie the cup is out of his hand for a while, could have happened then.

It's definitely the wine.

It ain't the pie!

See, I think of posts like this as spoilers. (Not big ones by any means.) It's one thing when people post them as opinions with reasoning (however solid or flawed that reasoning might be), but another just to list them as seemingly fact.

I guess this is only true if it's pointed out that it is the wine in the book. I just don't see the need to bring future book facts into the TV show thread. Obviously doesn't bother me too much since I keep opening the thread, just stating my opinion.
