Holy Thread resurrection!

Anyway, I've had 4 more colonoscopies since the first one I posted about on here. They definitely get easier.

Though I have not had one in a year since I don't have health insurance.

It shouldn't be a problem. The solution that you will be drinking will clean it all out. Had mine done mid-February and the experience wasn't bad at all. Doing the solution is the hardest part! My test results turned out A-OK. I also had the endoscopy done at the same time and it turned out showing no problems also.

I hope they did the endoscopy first.

When I had mine I had to do half the night before starting at 6 pm and half the next morning starting at 7am. It sucked going through the first half the night before knowing you had to do it all again the next morning. Of course after the first night there is nothing left except more liquid.
Make sure you have lots of toilet paper on available.

I read all the replies before posting and this has changed allot since I did mine. There was no gas or any thing that put me out at all. I just arrived went into a room to give myself an enema then was taken in for the procedure. I was awake the whole time and don't remember if I could see the monitor but I don't think so. When it was done and I was ready to leave I asked the nurse where the rest room was and at first she seemed confused that I shouldn't have to go and then realized about the gas. I went to a cafe for breakfast and then to work.

You had a sigmoidoscopy, not a colonoscopy. I've had the first as well, but not the second. The sigmoidoscopy is not as intrusive because it doesn't go as far in. They had me go 24 hours without food, then an enema the night before and the morning of (morning appointment). When I got there they gave me a light sedative and something to ease the gas pain, I was awake the whole time, and afterwards I was fine to go to work. And the farts were tremendous, earth-shaking affairs. They have to blow air into your colon to inflate it a bit so they can see clearly, and that's the air you have to fart out. That's why it's loud and long but doesn't stink.

I drank the gallon and seemed like I **** 4 gallons. grab the TP, charge the iPad and settle. Procedure isn't that bad if you don't think about docs and nurses making fun of your tiny weenie and probing your butt.

Ok I have to ask what were the signs that led up to the colonoscopy? I've been bleeding out of the ol' tail pipe and it's been getting more frequent. I kept telling myself I probably just have a case of the roids, but I finally set up a doc appointment.

is this something they might have me do to take a look at my insides? Or will the doc just shove his fist up my poop chute and call it good?

Can be roids, can be a fissure, can be symptoms of polyps, can be a lot of things, simple and/or not so simple. Bottom line, if there's blood in your stool get your arse to the doc.

They don't generally do much invasive on the first visit because you haven't done any prep so that they can see anything. Likely this will not be your first visit to the doc; they'll probably set you up to return for a sigmoid or a colonoscopy depending on your med history. Before you go see your doc, it's a good idea to ask your folks if there is any family history with diseases related to the colon. It will help your doc decide on the next step.

First time I drank the prep, I had a hard time drinking it down without gagging. On the second one, I talked to the nurse and took a different one mixed with sour apple powerade and had no trouble at all. Scope was no problem and do not need for 5 years.

Oh boy! Having a date with Mr. Sigmoid kind of makes me pucker up just thinking about. Reminds me of the movie Fletcher, "whole fist doc?!".

This is an extremely important piece of advice. Seriously, get baby wipes. It is the best $5 you will ever spend.

Prepping for my 5th one now. This one was the Mirolax + Dulcolax pill prep. First time I've done it. I'm not crapping as often but they are longer sessions.

Every time this thread gets bumped, I still come and read it even though I know it is mostly about how bad the ***** are. Why is this?
