In Perrault's defense, he wasn't nearly as bad in Omaha as he was in DSM. Perrault during Creighton bball season was actually pretty good, in my opinion. But, that may be because we were both big Creighton fans, and hated Nebraska.

As for Travis, he was tolerable on Todd n Tyler because he was usually only on air for 30-45 minutes. The "boobs talk" surprises me because on Todd n Tyler he was the one being made fun of for being a bit of prude.

Travis would probably be fine in small doses, like a weekly segment. But his schtick is so lame and hacky when stretched over 10 hours every week.

What type of life do you lead that you need sports talk all day long, and 24/7 internet sport forums? Can you actually get any work done if you're listening to talk radio? I get it if you are a line worker or something, but if you have to read emails/documents, attend meetings, you can't do it effectively while listening to talk radio. I admittedly spend way too much time on CF, but that's 'cause I want to see what is happening with my Cyclones, and you can do this whenever the time allows.

As for listening to a couple guys in the morning go off sports topics in the off season, oh lordy, the horror...

It just seems that if it upsets you, listen to music or a book, take a break from sports for a little bit. You won't miss much, I swear.

It actually started around 6:40 or so when a guy on Twitter called Narlic Blu told them their bias against Iowa State was "appalling." They spent 20 minutes defending themselves and going on and on about how great they are. Sounds like it continued on into hour #2.

You must not internet very often.

If you're not complaining about something, then you're doing it wrong.

I usually listen, but do get bored from time-to-time and I'm one that appreciates mixing in the off topic stuff (I love Beer with Bruno, for example). Also, Justice does get old after while. At some point, it is time to leave the juvenile locker room comments behind. Some guys can pull this off and others come off as just a big creepy. He's falling in to the latter.
I also agree Ross has more potential and he is being brought down, not raised up by his co-host.

Travis is small doses is fine, but he is simply not pulling his weight as a co-host.

Agree with the other comments about dead air. This is really uncomfortable and you just don't hear that on other shows....even the Cotman keeps it filled up. I think some of that is to blame on them not being in the same studio and thus somewhat throwing off chemistry. The reason most of us do listen is that is local radio show (which are harder and harder to find.) Can't we get two local hosts?

It's not that I don't have other options. I spend many morning commutes happily listening to news, music, or podcasts. But it would be nice to at least have the option of listenable local sports in the morning. I don't listed to Miller and Brinson every night on my drive home, but I at least know that if I tune it in quick there's the possibility they might have on a good guest or interesting ISU discussion. Morning Rush is basically guaranteed to not be worth my time.

I'm with you on this. I think Ross has a true passion for radio that you rarely see from the other local personalities. He is a great fit for the morning slot and I can only imagine he is a great host for Sound-off after Iowa games. I think if you paired him with Tim Fisher instead of Travis that show would be more tolerable.

Travis on the other hand is bringing that show down. He continues to be in radio because he can't get back into television (which he openly admits is his preference to radio), or his personal business endeavors fail. He subconsciously airs way too much personal information on the air: such as the successes/failures of his children - not to mention the location of their whereabouts in an age where people already feel like they are being monitored by big brother. The lack of sex in his life is also blatantly apparent the way he has to constantly bring up attractive women, boobs, Mr. Skin, etc. DAILY. Just take your wife out to dinner already.

Travis and Tim was unlistenable. Now with Travis and Ross it is much better (I know Ross so I am biased). Ross is unabashedly a Hawk, but he routinely reigns down praise on ISU. He has on numerous occasions ripped hawk fans for questioning his loyalty because he gives ISU credit.

As for the topics they talk a lot of sports. They have probably talked more baseball than any of the other local shows. Travis is like a horny dog constantly humping a leg and it gets old. He has a way of turning any conversation into something pervy.

I do think the show could have more success if they replaced Travis with someone in studio with Ross as it is very apparent that Travis is calling in from Omaha. I think if both were in studio the chemistry would be much better.

But I don't understand all to hate that the show gets. Its a morning radio show that is killing time until the football season starts there is nothing else to say until games start being played.

You posters just need to ease up a bit and enjoy it for what it is. Would you prefer another national honk blowhard taking their place?

Do they ever have anyone from ISU or other local sports scene on? My commute is 15 mins or so - and I never hear anything of any value. Honestly - they are the reason I have XM in my car. Miller and Brinson on the drive home aren't too bad. At the very least they have local sports talk and local interviews. Monday evening QBs, they get a coach every now and then. I'm not a fan of any of the nearby NFL teams - but still enjoy those interviews. Kaplan out of Chicago. They will have something of value on.

You never get any of that on the morning show, save the Thursday morning beer segment. But generally they're so obnoxious (not the guest, mostly Justice), it's unlistenable as well.

Do you really think you are going to get people to wake up and call into a radio for an interview at 6:30 in the morning?

Who are you addressing exactly??

I listen to sport talk during 20 - 25 minute commute in the morning, and 20 - 25 minutes home. During these few times I have available to do so, I want to listen to local sports talk.

I imagine others that have comments on this thread have similar stories.

How does this equate to listening to sports talk 24/7?

I think Ross and the show in general are just collateral damage from people that can't stand Travis.

So you are at work reading and posting on CF? Yeah, anyone posting (at work) in a CF thread about sports talk radio loses any ability to distance themselves from those that want to listen to good local sports talk.

I don't care about 6:30. I'm rarely in the car by 7:30 and they still offer nothing. Miller and Deace seemed to pull if of from time to time, even Cotlar.

But KXNO's morning show isn't worth a dime. Travis is absolutely horrendous. I don't listen enough to have much of an opinion on Ross - but I do know that he's not the problem with that show. Travis is a 40-something who still behaves like a 20-something (often enough a like a teen). It gets old, boring and too juvenile. I want that - I'll flip over to Howard Stern - not Des Moines SPORTS station.

And I do give it a chance. Most every morning I get in my car, it's still on KXNO from the night before and I'll give it a go. I can probably count on one hand where they had a good enough discussion to keep the station tuned in during my 8 mile commute.

As I said above, it doesn't matter much to me, I'm perfectly happy listening to M&M on ESPN on the way into work, or Dan Patick after Rush goes off the air.

You can't read and respond to emails with talk radio on? Unless I have a meeting/phone conference I have something on all day.

Problem in Des Moines is closest I can get ESPN is out of Omaha on 590.

Give me Jon Miller and Steve Deace any day. Jon might be a Hawkeye homer but at least he researched his material before he spewed it on the air. And NOBODY knows more about college football than Deace.

For as many people as who "hate" the show, there sure are a lot that seem to know what's going on with it

I hate the Omaha commercials crap...you are a Des Moines show speaking to Des Moines listeners. no problem with Travis being in Omaha, but to promote anything in Omaha is only hurting the economy in Des Moines.

I listen every day, and for the most part enjoy them. I'm hoping they'll get back to more sports talk after we've had some actual games this week.

I think Murph and Andy have a perfect balance of off topic and sports takes. They know when to be serious and when to have some fun.
Granted, I don't listen listen to the morning show since I'm out of Iowa and don't really care about the morning rush, but the other major factor seems to be the content of the off topic stuff. With Murph and Andy, the only segment that may be a bit inappropriate is ask Tana. Most of their stuff is light hearted and not risque. Morning Rush sounds different and I can see why people wouldn't like that

I don't have a problem with the off topic stuff when it is in the middle of summer and the local sports seasons are in hibernation but it's game week now. There has to be some content they can bring to the table. Get the play by play guy for the Bison or Gary Rima on. Get a hold of some beat reporters. Just because Miller and Brinson get a lot of those guys doesn't mean they have a monopoly on them. Basically from now until April there is a ton of stuff that can be talked about locally without having to dive into the boobie bag for content.

Actually, Travis and Ross got in trouble for having David Kaplin on because he was a sponsored guest of Miller and Brinson.
