So you're saying we aren't going to win in KC?

Crap. This must mean Hoiberg is planning on throwing games. It's the end of the world. ISU basketball is over. Burn Hilton to the ground and cancel the plan to build a Hoiberg statue to place next to Johnny's.:jimlad:

Just win baby. Just win. We can clinch a 3 seed by winning out. Right now it's ours to lose. Win tonight and we have 10 top 50 wins. No team with 10 good wins is a 4 seed.
If we were to win out:

We could have 13 top 50 wins
52% of our wins would be against the RPI top50

(And assuming if that were to happen and none of the other 4 big12 top25 inhabitants nose dive out)

We could have 8 wins against the RPI top25.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself but one more piece of info.

If we were to get those 8 wins, that would be more wins against the RPI top25 than any other top20 team (outside of other big12 teams) has even played.
OU, ku, and Baylor are the only teams that can match or beat this feat.

I know in football we talk about the difficulty of our schedule and how it affects us, but I think this blows it out of the water.

Are you sure? I thought there were scenarios where ISU could win out and not get the 3 seed being behind KU, OU and BU.

EDIT: Sorry, I now realize you mean NCAA 3 seed, not Big 12 tourney 3 seed. Carry on.

THAT is why ISU is still listed as a 3 seed in places. THAT is why ISU didn't plummet in the polls. THAT is why we should still have faith in this team.

Exactly. The last 2 games have sucked but all you have to do is a little research to find out we are still a 3 seed since most teams don't have a resume like we do. Just thinking about that gets me all excited for March again, since a 3 seed puts you in prime position to make at least a Sweet 16.

It's pretty realistic the Big 12 could have Kansas finish as a 2 seed and then have Baylor, Iowa State, and Oklahoma all in on the 3 line. Unless I'm missing a bracketing rule somewhere that might be a first.

BU is currently a 4 seed according to Lunardi. Since their regular season ends with games at Texas and TT at home do they really have enough there to push up for a 3 seed without doing some damage in the conference tourney? That would probably require some current 3 seeds to fall apart here at the end. Notre Dame or Maryland? Notre Dame losing at Louisville probably wouldn't hurt them. If they coupled that with a home loss to Clemson - maybe. Maryland collapsing at Rutgers and Nebraska to close out the season - not likely but that could do it.

Lunardi's S-Curve:
8 ku
9 ISU
10 Notre Dame
11 Maryland
12 Oklahoma
13 Baylor

I think it will be hard for OU and Baylor to jump those two teams without hurting ISU in the process (OU winning tonight or Baylor bouncing us in KC). I also think ku will have to do some major damage to themselves to get us bumped to the 2 seed (losing to both WV and OU) and an early exit in KC. Iowa State needs to just worry about the next game and everything will be fine. Beat OU, that is all that matters today, and I think Fred will have the team focused on that.

I think that is an old S-Curve. He had OU 9th today and ISU 12th.

It's not about huggin trees, it's not about being wasteful either. You just gotta find that balance, where taking care of yourself takes care of more than just yourself.

The same people whinging about this team right now are the same ones that whinge about our OOC schedule strength. People that want a tougher OOC better start getting some thicker skin because when you step up to a KU, UK, MSU, Duke, Syracuse, etc type OOC you're going to take some losses and I don't have time for meltdowns in the pre-con season.

Syracuse leads Virginia 6-0 right now with 13 minutes left in the 1st. 1 FG combined so far, and Virginia has 6 turnovers.

Why would someone meltdown over losing to Duke? There is a difference between melting down and being disappointed, just like sunshine pumping is different from optimism. IDK why people think it's always one extreme or another.

Incorrect. I still hate our noncon schedule, predicted 25-5 on the season, and have yet to freak out.
That might be generally correct, but some of us have balanced high expectations with the reality of an outstanding season that's gone differently than we thought.
